crxtasy169, I think that could work! I am not at home with my bike right now so I can't put my eye on it, but from Nitto's pics on the last page, it does look like there is enough on that nub to slot it. It doesn't look like it needs much. Do you think with the slot and spacer on the bottom, the top will bolt up correctly? Would you be able to tighten the bottom enough to keep it solid, (no play)?

Yeah I think it will stay tight especially if you use a little medium locktight. Yeah the top will bolt up for sure. What I would do is bolt the top in and then mark how much needs to be ground away to slot it out, that way there is absolutely no mistake with how much you grind out.

I think that will work. I am anxious to get a closer look at the frame nub when I, get the trunk pan and break the bike down. If it looks like there is enough room for the slot I am going to try it. I will post pics whenever that happens. How about you? Got all your parts? Ready to give it a go? If you try it first , please post. Again, thanks for the great idea.

All you have to do to get a better look at it is pull the bottom two bolts and lift the tail to see the two mount tabs I did this the other night and it was easy to see. I took a couple measurements and it looks like it will work, the only part that worries me is the thickness of the mount at the back it actually tapers from the outside to the inside. But then again with the measurements I think it will be ok as long as you have a steady hand and a good method for slotting it out! Don't forget the 5mm spacer!

Did this mod this last spring while I was waiting for the weather to change. Very simple once you figure out the lower frame rail. I did not have to do any modifaction (it's coming this winter though..) because I have the trojan sub frame spacers that I had installed on the bike. The spacer fits the gap perfectly and rotates the tail upward making the difference less radical. However the spacer covers do not line up perfectly now so they will get tended to this winter. What you will need for the build is the s rails, undertray, s seat latch cable, s battery tray, and seat of choice, personally went with the scg seat because I'm only 5'9 and the tail lift does give it a little more altitude..

Another advantage the sub frame spacers gave me on this mod was that I was not forced to notch the undertray and battery tray for clearance. Other than the covers not lining up perfectly in was a simple bolt on mod. Once I had the parts it just took an afternoon. You will have to get very creative to get everything in, but that's the hardest part.

Some recent pics, it really needs a bath and the frame rails will get redone this winter thanks to the clip on a utility knife. Just did some new graphics, aluminum grips from ASB, aluminum bar ends, and my 190 on the back :D

This is the offset that was left, will mod the covers to match this winter

I want to figure a way without jacking the tail up I just don't like the jacked look, there has to be a way!!!

Well, other than the S seat latch cable (thanks for the reminder, will order that tomorrow)...all the other parts are bought and on there way. Some will arrive earlier than the others being that i'm down under in OZ, but should everything here by the time i need to drop off bike (help where i can).
Agree with above, not my idea to have the jacked up look. Just not for me. Going the 12sx seat as the SCG is just too thin and we have some long kilometres (miles for you guys) to cover.
As for parts being chased by the above (btw Baja - did you order form ASB?)
Sprinter187 has battery tray and trunk pan. Quoted me $50 for the pair shipped to Kansas. Grab it while you can lads.
Anyone going ahead 1st, please pics and vids. Otherwise, in a about 5 weeks i'll get started and look at hwat options are available.
Cheers,
WOLF

blott01, your bike looks good, but as with the others I am not going for the high tail look, trying to keep it as low as possible, but good info none the less and thanks for the pics. The aluminum grips are tough! Wolf you presume correctly, I did order all my parts from ASB several months back. I have been working with AL. He has been great on keeping me posted on availability. To date, I have everything except the plastic trunk pan. ASB assures me it is to come. crxtasy169, I am planning to go your route when I get the parts. So far it looks like the best and simplest plan. Honestly probably won't have the time until later in Nov. Hopefully I will have the trunk pan by then. Dude if you do it before then, let me know how it goes. Side note...has anyone seen a large luggage bag, (the top one that clips on to the side bags) for sale....anywhere?

Update:
a bit of a step back as the 2 rails i had lined up where both RH.
So have to wait like most others on the LH or whichever is the delayed one.
Funny how HD produce one side right now but not the other.
Sucks to say the least, but what can i do. Oh well.

I Now have all my parts!! Both rails, trunk pan, bat pan, seat release cable, and seat! I am so stoked! Now the bad news. I am still not home and won't be until late Nov. That will be the soonest I could do the switch. If I don't have time then it will be next spring. :( crxtasy169, how about you? Have you tried your idea?

Don;t sweat it too much big fella, with any luck we may have options and solutions by November (i tuly hope).
Looking to explore all avenues and see what works best. Film and pics as much as possible.
Baja - where did you source your rails from as HD are empty? where they from ASB, and when did you get them if i may ask?
Cheers,
WOLF

Haven't had the money for parts lately as soon as I get the parts it's on. I also want to put the S swing arm on. Sucks having to convert everything but they didn't offer the S for 09 and I'm too big for an SCG.

Wolf, I got all my stuff from ASB. Had all the parts on order since last spring or so. All the parts filtered in slowly. By mid Sep I had everything except one rail and the trunk pan. The rail came at the end of Sep, trunk pan the beginning of Oct. Hope that helps. The actual dates elude me.

Nearly there.
Waiting on one side rail from ASB.
Then shipping ot OZ ofcourse.

Work has commenced.
At the moment, it looks like the cutting and welding of the rails is still the best option.
All depends on the internals.
Pics, vids and write up once all done.
Cheers,

Dammit!... postponed til after Holidays.
Was always going to be tricky, since some of the work is being outsourced and conflicts with holiday period.
Keep you all posted.

WOLF
