Sad day as Buell shuts its doors.

I'm just as pissed as everyone. Maybe thats why Buell came out w/ the new motor? Was the writing on the wall? Sounds like a back door deal w/ Harley and Honda to get rid of Buell. Harley and Honda have worked together before to pressure the EPA against custom builders and that market. Buell was dominating in NHRA and now sportbike racing, why just shut the doors? There has to be more to the story.

Like others have said; this is very sad news to me also. My first three bikes were BSA's now gone, a Hodaka now gone, a Penton now gone, a Maico now gone, six real Husky's now gone. Wish I had kept them, but still have fond memories. My XB9 City Cross is a great bike, with real right now good times, and I will ride it until age and time allows. :(:(:(

Since Mr Buell doesn't go on with his company after HD drops him, I assume it means Buell can't stand on its own feet, but maybe someone else can pick them up? (they're selling MV Agusta, why not sell Buell too?)
Anyway, I hope this can be undone somehow. It all depends on how HD/Buell were connected I guess.

It was Buell's alignment with HD that killed it. The problems HD has with quality control and reliability has reflected poorly on a quality product.

I hope they will spin off, that would be nice.

I'm kind of curious what the next weeks/months hold. Why would they shut down buell instead of selling it? They must have plans for it.

Was the 1125 a last-ditch effort to save the company or a roadmap to a change involving an end-game with Harley?

Very sad indeed. I am wondering....If I had a crystal ball and could see this in the future, when I bought mine new in July....would I have bought it??? I am PISSED! [mad]

@TSB...Why would you not want it? It is still an awesome machine. And truth be told, I am actually considering buying another one. A good friend just signed papers this morning for an 09 1125R.

i have thought about the idea of going out and buying a brand new buell and just keeping it in storage for 20 years since it is now a collectors item...this sucks

I searched for two years to try and find the perfect motorcycle as my first bike. After I found Buell I waited for another year before I was able to purchase one. Now I have owned my CityX for barely a month and find out that the brand I was so excited to finally be a part of is dead. I feel very lucky I was able to get the exact bike I was hoping for before it was gone.

I'm really dissapointed. Upset even. I was really considering at HD but now I'm disgusted with the company.

I doubt Erik has the time to browse message boards, but -

Dear Erik,

I am the proud owner of an 06 Firebolt. I often look at my bike in the garage, and ponder the countless hours you and your team spent designing and engineering such a wonderful machine. Watching videos of you discussing the early days of Buell in that small workshop, I bet you feel like a proud parent when you see someone riding on the very motorcycle you designed.

You have not failed. Whatever your future plans, I hope they utilize that incredibly talented brain of yours, envisioning and designing the ultimate motorcycle.

You are a true inspiration to me, Erik. Your drive and vision has created incredible motorcycles that will undoubtedly hold a place in history.

Sincerely,

CBi

Buell has now become the modern Indian Motorcycles. Many will try to recreate them, but they wont be the same. I'm still a proud owner of both. But man, what a crappy day!

What a bummer. I've always been a fan of HD cycles. I'm questioning my loyalty to the brand now. I fell in love with my xb12r the day I saw it, and even more in love with it the day I bought it. I hate thinking that there won't be any new advancements in technology regarding my bike or others with my bike. I love having a bike that 1. No one has ever heard of, 2. Turns heads like no other, and 3. Has the heart and soul of a small company invested in its roots. I'm planning on moving to Arizona next December, and planned on attending MMI while I was there. I wanted to work on Buell/HDs some day. That's all changing now. In the meantime, I'm just going to stock up on some basic parts and hope for the best. [sad]
