Sad day as Buell shuts its doors.

Maybe if buell could fall into the hands of say Aprilia? or Ducati? Maybe put the title of Monster on a more fitting ride? There is no way buell will disappear.

Just to let everyone know, Harley by contract, will be selling parts thru their third party manufacturer of Buell parts, for the next 7 years.

So we are safe to an extent in keeping our bikes running.

And for anyone who actually rides their Buell, the extended warranties are NOT affected by this and still offered. FYI 5 years is 1400 dollars w/50 dollar deductible.

I ******* knew HD would be the end of Buell as I stated in a thread last year when my local dealer stop selling them.

**** HD.

Harley Davidson is showing interest in hiring Erik back on as having some design and engineering creativity for future bike designs. In the next few years you may see our same bikes or an Erik Buell inspired design by HD. I know Erik was the man but you have to realize that Erik only owned 2% of the company. Harley provided and payed for most of everything we bought.[smirk]

why would you ever want some FOREIGN COMPANY to OWN BUELL , That is the exact OPPOSITE of what Erik BUELL wanted buell to be, he wanted an AMERICAN MOTORCYCLE COMPANY to take on the world and the big foreign bike companies, in races, and to show the world what an AMERICAN MOTORCYCLE COMPANY can really do and compete with the best. It will always remain an AMERICAN COMPANY IF ERIK has any thing to with it. I think harley would respect that aspect. besides erik buell still owns some of buell with harley controlling the majority shares of the buell company.? i REALLY DONT THINK HARLEY wants another foreign company to compete in sales against, & along with the technology that buells and the sportsters share.

For me and I think most of us, one of main reason I bought a Buell was because it is an AMERICAN bike ,with a V-twin harley engine(& harley sound), and all the very unquie looks and very unquie innovations from BUELL. i dont want something that everyone else has.

The truth is Erik only owned 2 % which means when Harley stopped supporting them Erik really had nowhere to go. Hopefully he gets on board with Harley and starts designing HIS style bikes again. I could care less if it carries the Harley name. I want the performance, handling, unique factor and Erik's one of a kind designs.

I heard this news yesterday and thought this really sucks. I have an 06 Uly which has been through all the crappy electrics dramas and (touch wood) has been reliable ever since.

I think the only people this is going to hurt are the folk who want to trade in their existing Buell.... in which case Yes, you're probably screwed... But why do that? We all think Buells are the best bikes. We all have the dream bike, regardless of model. If you had to pick any bike to own, what would you choose? Someone with Erik Buell's vision will pop back up somewhere in the future for sure and in the meantime HD are required by contractural law to supply parts and servicing to existing customers.

So.... we still have the best bikes and are guaranteed the same level of mediocre support from HD as always.

The winners, in my opinion are the folk just about to buy a new Buell, they'll get a Buell for buttons!! Lucky swines :)

A little insite from the other side.

Talked to a guy at the gas station today, he's a old school biker, you can tell by the old tattoos and scars, late 50's maybe. Told me about his old Knuckle head he is rebuilding but hes a little short on cash because of lack of work. He was checking out my bike when I was pumping gas. He said he had more respect for Buell and what they were doing than Harley. Said he would never own a new Harley, said they sold out on themselves Years ago. He was pissed they closed Buell, He told me that he would never own a sport bike and never really liked Buell for the bikes just what they were doing. As he was leaving he said Buell was more American in every way than Harley has been for the last 20 years and Buell should be the one still open and building bikes.

I guess the only people that still like Harley are the weekend bad ***** with the black cutoff sleeve t-shirt and cheesy goatees.
