Hey everyone in the USA. Haha this is kind of odd, but I'm posting this everywhere.

When you order items, or sell them, you should look at using the post office to ship. I know that alot of the time ups and FedEx are cheaper, but that is causing a big problem for all of us! Now, I don't work for, nor do I know anyone who works for the post office, but USPS needs our help, and we need them!

Our government is doing what they do best and ignoring problems. The USPS is in dire need of business. They've lost something like $14.5 billion dollars in revenue and things are getting really hairy for our post offices. I'm talking about hundreds of thousands of US jobs gone, simple 1-2 day shipping getting extended out to 1-2 weeks.

I'm not normally a person to go around talking about things like this, but could you just for a minute imagine a USA without the USPS!? Who's going to deliver your mail? The post office is a privately owned business (if you didn't know) they are federally backed for funding, but congress has basically chosen to ignore the issue.

So, help everyone out ship things with the USPS, buy some stamps, send your grandma a post card!

You know what they say "you don't what what you've got till its gone"

the major reason the USPS is in the financial trouble its in is BECAUSE of Congress... mandating "pre-payment" of pensions... which are somewhat generous due to the unionization of the USPS.... I'm just saying its a bit more complicated than UPS/FEDEX competition. AND, they're also Union w/generous pensions/health (my Bro-inlaw retired from UPS)...so I'm not sure what's up with USPS. You can bet your bippie that UPS/FEDEX/etc. would deliver mail if USPS wasn't.

And the private shippers aren't always cheaper...UPS wanted over $80 to ship a $60 seat...went to USPS and spent $15 instead.

Oh yeah, I know the full story. I figured if someone didn't know but was interested in the problem they could ask google all about it.

I didn't go too much into the details about the cause of the problem, because there's nothing we as citizens can do about the cause, but we can do our best to fix the problem.

It was probably Dick Cheney and Satan that put the plan into motion, just after they started poisoning people with hydraulic fracturing (which freaks me out because my water come from a well, and I'm sitting on top of millions of dollars worth of natural gas)

Hate seeing Americans loose their jobs.

I guess all those millions sponsoring Lance and the boys, riding through France was not a good investment after all

I always use USPS. It was 105 to ship my race pipe to France. Fed Ex wanted 400!!

We're so busy trying to act like we're still #1 to the rest of the world to see the real problems at home :(

I know it costs millions of dollars to ride a bike in France, but it might not be so important!

I get so fed up with people turning every issue into supporting the THEFT of pensions from honest workers. How immoral is that!

Anyway, USPS is the best way to ship to Canada and I always insist on it. My experience is that it is cheaper and simpler and usually just as quick. It's also trackable.

I personal beleive alot of issues lay in unions hands. I use usps whenever i send anything and have had great luck. Seems like any place employing unions have issues right now . Teacher, auto, usps and county workers always are the first to cry when times get tough . What about the private sector? I havent had a raise in 8 years! Times are tough so you need to change spending habits, sounds simple but doesnt seem to get through when your jobs are funded by tax dollars! Sorry if cuts are needed but you cant just raise taxes everytime you want a raise or heath insurance goes up.

I use the usps all the time and am happy with it. But this statement bugs me:
I didn't go too much into the details about the cause of the problem, because there's nothing we as citizens can do about the cause, but we can do our best to fix the problem.
It sounds kind of like saying the boat is filling up with water, lets put a big bilge pump in and just ignore the hole in the side. Without stopping whats causing the problem there is no permanent fix.

Ah, the myth of privatization (or PPP).

Yep, Fed-Ex are paid less than postal workers so that looks like it should work. However, now two parties have bureaucracies to support and the fees are negotiated higher at a later date.

So, that's two more tax expenses.

Aha, the usps infrastructure has been decimated so there is no going back to a more economical model. Tax expense continue to increase.

In my view, even in a minimalist government, postal service is one of its responsibilities.

Total deregulation = Mogadishu

Thats funny. My local USPS had to open some book that was still in the packig to get the city code in france. Took about 30 minutes but the lady at the counter was very helpful.

But did you know that.....that all international shippments from the usps get tranfered to a FedEx plane to get shipped over seas.

Seems like we found the pick pockets....

Congress is the problem. Congress is basically ran by corporations who suck money out of every facet of society so that they can dump more money into their pockets. (there's a reason why 1% of the population has 90% of the money)

Nothing short of a complete restructure of the executive branch of the US government will fix that.

Not to get too much into politics (this is neither the time nor place), Ron Paul so far is the only person I've seen who is running for office who hasn't been swayed by a corporation. Even here in Ohio, the governor said it was OK for companies to set up hydraulic fracturing wells, which have been proven to poison groundwater wells that people drink from, because the companies paid for $213,000 worth of his campaign.

Regardless of my political views, USPS is very important to all of us. Even those who have hard times in the private sector.

lol, if anyone wanted to talk politics I prefer to discuss in person over beers.

it's like NSEGE said, the actual cause is because congress is forcing USPS to pre-pay pension funds... wtf

"here struggling post office, go ahead and give us $14.5 billion now even though there's no reason... or else!"

Contractor starts working on your house. You agree to pay so much to start, so much in process, and so much at the end.

Your buddies tell you not to pay the contractor at the end. He's already done the job. Make him chase you for it. Pocket the difference.

Who you going to listen to? People urging you to steal from your contractor?

Of course, your conscience and the courts would tell you to pay up.

The real question is where did the promised (pension) money go. What did you spend it on? You had it set aside years ago and you knew it was coming due?

Why would I trust you with any other financial matter?

Your friends must be jerks [smirk]

I almost always use USPS. They are almost always cheaper. Also, I will NEVER use fedex again by choice, the last 3 things I've purchased that came fedex were badly damaged. I haven't had issues with UPS but they are expensive. USPS is pretty reasonable and I've never had any issues with damage, and I use them probably once a month for the past few years.

I also found out recently the usps near the airport is open really late, until like 9pm, and on the way home, and not crowded. So it's pretty convenient...

almost everything im selling right now is being shipped usps unless the package weighs over 70 lbs
