I take a long-bent nosed set of needle nose pliers and grab as indicated below. Protect the frame & stuff with a free hand or something because it's a sudden "snap" off release when it comes off.any advice on getting the wire boot on/off?

The Spark plug socket and flex joint are for the Rear spark plug access - not the front....you have direct access to the front spark plug from the side so you can use a 5/8" combo wrench instead of coming in from the top with the socket and flex joint
