any advice on getting the wire boot on/off?
I take a long-bent nosed set of needle nose pliers and grab as indicated below. Protect the frame & stuff with a free hand or something because it's a sudden "snap" off release when it comes off.

Just finished putting new plugs in...old plugs looked pretty nasty, front looked worse than the rear. Hardest part was getting the damn boots back on the plugs!

Here are the old plugs, front is on the right:

front is running a little rich, rear appears quite rich.
bent needlenose work, but can still damage wires, recommend spark plug wire pullers... wrecked my own...

They make something specifically to pull the wires? How about something to put them back on??

I replaced the oem plugs with ngk iridiums, hopefully that'll resist fouling a little better...

this is a great thread and need to type something in so i can revert back to this w/o searching all over again

Just replaced mine with the irridiums and old were driping wet with black soot. I"ve got to find time to tune it.

If you click on Stevenc150's name, he has a whole list of great threads. It's an easy way to find any useful info about buells.

Just a thought, since I have a VERY hard time getting to the front plug - if you remove the air scoop, you have direct access to the front spark plug from the side so you can use a 5/8" combo wrench instead of coming in from the top with the socket and flex joint

The Spark plug socket and flex joint are for the Rear spark plug access - not the front. ;)

Steven- you are correct. I accidentally posted here instead of Dave's video thread, it was really in response to his method. To each his own - I just thought I was doing something wrong.

Cheers

Ah, I see. Well on that point we agree - much easier with a combo wrench for the front plug. [up]

Just successfully used this guide to change the plugs on my 03 xb9, but I cannot get the rubber boot to slide back over the plugs for the life of me. Does anyone have any advice on this? I already ripped a little piece off the boot on the front plug trying to pull it down with a pair of pliers.

great thread, i think i need to replace the plugs which i havent done in... about 6.5k miles... :(

this is very helpful - along with all the other DIY stuff i have tried from this forum (header wrap and exhaust mods). i am planning my first (16,000km) service this weekend - just don't have the bucks to get it done right now. normally just like to get it stamped by a bike service shop as reference for future sales. bought the Uly with 9500km on end of January and put on about 6500km in about 5 months. loving it!

i will also be referencing Dave's videos to get it done smoothly!

thanx so much guys!
