ive had numerous kinds of tires and all i have to say is if you ride hard and go through a set to two sets a season dont buy dunlop q2's they never seem to get traction. my personal choice would have to be pirellis or the new michelin power pure's. they cut off like 30% of the weight witch each pound counts as one hp.

@Raz, just remember if you stray from the stock aspect ratio, you are going to change the rake/trail of the bike, which is going to make it handle WAY different. Even using the PP changes the setup of the bike due to the V shape of the center section of the tire, making the bike sit slightly higher.
I'm sure it's already been addressed, but don't try and run a 180 on the back of a stock 4.5 inch rim. It'll fit, but it pinches the bead, causing the tire to deform. Handling is crazy unpredictable. If you have the upgraded 5 inch PM wheels, those can take a 180.

I replaced my stockers with a set of Dunlop Qualifiers my friend found on craigslist for 150 front and rear. Went to go meet the guy and they still had the stickers and price tag from the local dealership he bought them from. the rear alone was 150 and another 120 for the from based on the stickers. I love 'em. granted i haven't tried the power pures which were my first choice but for the price I paid and the extra confidence in the corners that i got from them I'd be tempted to purchase another set of Qualifiers.
Hey , anyone out there try those pirelli angels out on their ulys yet? they are looking like some bad ass tires, but pricey. I still havent made my mind up yet. I have read the tire thread through. Its been awhile as alot of the posts are getting outdated. I couldnt find pirelli diablo stradas anywhere. I was also wondering if anyone has tried the michelin power pilots 2ct on their uly's. Anyway I am looking for new treads and still not sure. I am aggressive in corners, I ride offroad almost never. I do ride alot of tar and chipped roads which means occasional loose gravel. My factory dunlops are shot up with only 4ooo on them....And thats not too sweet. I would like to get a long lasting sport or sport touring tire on my uly. Any advise would be appreciated! I had wear problems with the stockers on my 05 XB12R. I do a lot of straight road riding, as most of it is the commute to work. I get big flat spots in the middle. I'm about to replace my Conti Road Attacks with another set of the same. They are continuous compound tire. Both front and back are just about done with about 8k miles. I do have one close twisty road that I use to knock off the chicken strips a little. They gave great cornering grip, even in the wet. With the stock tires I could not let go of the handlebars. With the Contis I can let go of the bars at 80 without a twitch. This is with the stock bars, and also with the dirt bike bars I put on this last off-season. Too bad I already have the new set ready to install. Those new Conti road attack 2 are lookin good. Cheers! 
The Pirelli Angels are great ! Had them on my TT and the handling and grip were amazing compared to the scorpions that came stock on it , just sold that bike and had 2500 miles on the Angels with no sign of wear. They're great in the wet also and really good in the twisties. Just bought an XB9S and it has Angels, so that's a plus for me. Earlier today I had some Michelin Pilot 2CTs installed on my SS , i've read a bunch of good reviews and thought i'd give them a try, besides, got a hell of a deal at $230.00 for a set. [up]
A dealer group in Texas called Family Powersports . I go to their location in Hurst ,Texas. They have good tire prices. I bought a set of Pirelli Angels there a few months back for $245.00 and at that time they had free installation. [up]
