voltage regulator

[confused] I have been having a charging problem on my 03 bolt xb9r. have read all the post on here and have also done all the diagnostic tests as mentioned in the manual. all tests seem to check out to specs. today when i was going over the bike some more i noticed a brown sticky substance that looks like it was blown out of the vr. does this occur when the vr is fried??? i assume it is so i ordered a new one. was just curious if i am correct?

when my voltage regulator went out on my 2001 X1 that happened, not so sure on the XBs though, hasnt happened to my 9s yet..

When mine went bad, the back of the VR was burnt and definitely smelled burnt, nothing came out of it. But i would say since there is no fluid in the VR then there is something for sure wrong with yours. I guess it got hot enough to melt the sealant into a liquid...

thanks guys hopefully when the new voltage regulator gets here that will fix my problem.
