Temp finally broke 45 on Saturday so went for a short 30 min ride. When I got back, I saw the black goo oozing out of the chin fairing (xb12r)[confused]. At first I thought it was oil, but it's more like a malleable black plastic. I'm pretty certain it's not from the bike. I used a heat gun to get it off (didn't want to start and stop the engine to heat it up). It melts real easy and re-hardens very fast when it cools.

the only thing I can think of is it's some sort of pot-hole patch stuff which is everywhere around here right now. But for the life of me I can't figure out how that much tar could have possibly fit through the chin fairing; there's just not enough room [confused]. I got most of it off, but I don't think I'll ever get it clean enough to paint over (which is what I need to do due to rust on the less that 1 yr old header).[mad]

For those of you coming out of garage for the first spring ride, watch out for pot-hole goo! Not to mention all the sand that's still everywhere!

looks like you might of thrown a chunk of pothole filler onto your exhaust and it stuck between the pipe and fairing and melted, been there before, its a pain to get rid of

Ya, The black spot on the header is just above the fairing, so maybe it landed there and oozed down to the can.

That's crack sealer. I work for a city street department. Sometimes when it gets cold the rubber or crack sealer loosens from the cracks in the street and sticks to the warmed up tires. Probablly pulled up about a foot long strip off the road. That sucks!!! Keep working it with heat to get most of material off...then maybe try Goof Off or some diesel on a towel to wipe off.
