XB12 SS Lightning both lights on - HID redux

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

What I was saying is you dont have to do this mod, it is for lightnings NOT firebolts.

Firebolts come both lights on when you use your brights.

:)

I'm looking into replacing my lighting with HID, but I don't understand why you wouldn't want them to turn on when you turn your key like the stock lights do? Or why you would want to install relays. I'm fairly knowledgeable on wiring and electronics but I'm not familiar with HID systems

Anyone know what bi-xenon projector fits best in my stock houseing on my Ulysses? I see they have several different size options on the market.

FYI no XB is wired for the bi-xenon feature, it has to be done seperate.
PM christianmb he has it done on his bike.

Bi-xenon means that both bulbs will act as the low beam and the high beam.

Wyatt, Your factory housing has an approximate 4" Lens diameter and is approximately 4" in depth. A projector that is 4" or less in length is the optimum unit with most Projectors having a 2.5" diameter. The projectors i used are no-name chinese made units which are approximately 5" in length, hence the reason I had to cut out the lens to allow them to fit. The diameter is 2.5" on the fresnal, 3" overall with shroud.

Bi-xenon is the only way to go for a dual side-by-side horizontal mount unit. There are many different "retrofit" units on the market. I recently acquired a projector from an Acadia for another route I'm considering.

The retrofit source has some retrofit projectors that appear to be decent quality.

With the bi xenon projectors installed as both on, how do you control your high and low beam? And is there a way a decent way to wire it were I can have to option to only run halos with out the actual projector light being on?

Did you pm christianmb?

I dont think you understand how XB lights work. There is a low beam housing that the reflector (shiney chrome part) inside the housing is different than the high beam housing reflector making it a low beam. Both the low beam and the high beam are the same size bulb they just use a different reflector to make the light different out of each housing. If you are looking at the front of the bike the left side is the low beam side and the right is the high beam.

If you do the both on mod all you are doing is keeping the low beam on with the high beam.

XB's dont have dual filament or bi xenon headlights!

PM CHRISTIANMB

I know that much, but if I install bi xenon projectors, they do junction as high and low from what I understand. Unless I'm getting that part wrong. And if they do function as high and low, how would I have to wire that so my hi/lo switch on my bike will control that function?

Hey guys....04 firebolt here...I realize the wiring is different on firebolt than lightnings....but I would really like to wire up my hids so that the low beam stays off until you hit the flash button and high beam is turned on with high beam switch (in which case both would be turned on on my firebolt) like the OP. Any help would be appreciated.

You'll need something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DEI-611T-12-VOLT-ACTIVE-LATCHING-SWITCH-RELAY-TIMER-/140333447156

It's a latch, meaning that it will turn on with a flick of a momentary push-button ( such as the flash button) and will turn back off as well (using the same button). It's output can be used to trigger a relay for the low beam or HID module.

I had it on my 'bolt and loved it...but have since run without it on my new firebolt...it ended up crapping out after 2 1/2 years of use.
