Yet another hackpipe!

I'll be removing the outer later of mesh and replacing it with a 2-1/4" pipe. It should be a lot louder. Basically, it will be a glasspack inside a stock can. Total cost with mod revision will be $32.

I have my can all opened up right now and was wondering a few things before I weld it back together.

1) I was planning on just having it come out of the tube that connects to the header into an empty can and out the stock hole (ok, slightly larger than stock). Is this a bad idea? Should I perhaps put in some "flowmaster" type baffles?

2) I have an 04 XB9SX, am I going to have to get it re-mapped? From what I am hearing on this subject it is not necessary unless combined with a K&N filter swap. Is this true?

3) Lastly, if I hate what I come up with, do you think that Randy (Hawk performance) could fix where I f***ed up?

Thanks, Ben

1) I'd definitely suggest some kind of baffling or running a tube in side. An empty can will sound hollow and not have any "grunt"
2) You'll be fine without a remap as long as you don't do the filter.
3) From what I've read, Randy is a god of mufflers so I'd say yes.:D

Well, my pipe went under the knife again. Replaced the outer mesh layer with a piece of 2.5" straight pipe with the packing and inner mesh inside that. Basically a glass pack. DEAR LORD this thing is loud! Sounds like a Sportster now. Definitely a noticeable torque increase though. Pulled the nose up without trying last night. Sound clip in the next couple days.

I just ordered one of Hawk's. Its supposed to be a good pipe though and the only one under $200. Should have it back hopefully next week. Here is one of the clips of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=001nPS_sB5s
I did find another cheap stock pipe and I am going to try to do it myself. I have seen some that are open in the middle like your first cut out, but just have screen or mesh welded to the inlet and outlet inside the can. Would that provide enough back pressure for the bike?

I'll be doing yet another hack and pretty much keeping the outer shell of my stock can just for mounting points. Pics to come next week.
