I didn't change my brake line either, even when I upgraded to a radial M/C.
The new calipers come with pads and its a bolt-on change.

The master cylinder is a bolt on swap as well. Either Any '08-up Buell (or EBR), or any 19mm radial M/C for 7/8" bars. Make sure it comes with it's own lever if you go radial.

oh, ok.
Stangly enough, it is not the same brake line used for a 2005 XB12S and a 2010 XB12SX for exemple.

Ouch! I deserve that, what a rookie...:upset: I have to install my gas cap upside down for a month as punishment and tell everyone with a Buell they have a headlight out:black_eyed:

* I fixed-ed it:)

Hahah :D

Sure, different Buells had different brake lines.

But you want to upgrade the brakes on the same bike. Brake line length won't change, because its on the same bike.

Sure glad the 09s and 10s XB12s came with the 8 pistons. I quess the 9s didn't go fast enough ,LOL

I think OEM was performance friction.

all buells from late 90's to end of 2010 model year production left the factory with sintered "semi-metallic" pads front AND rear. the supplier was both Galfer in barcelona, spain and EBC in the UK depending on whom supplied the best bulk pricing at any particular time.

Well it actually could need a change (and buell DID change it). Here are two pictures of ZTL1 :

And a picture of ZTL2

We can see that it goes a little lower on ZTL1 brake. About half an each lower. And ZTL2 brake line is straight while ztl1 brake line is a little twisted.

So I agree that both brake lines type might work on both caliper. But they have definitly not the same design.

Niklos: I have just been saying the brake line that came with your bike will work if you just add a ZTL-2 caliper and 19mm Master cylinder. You don't have to buy a brake line.

Obviously, buying a new one will work too. I don't see the point of wasting that valuable beer money.

All right ! Thanks.

Here we go. ZTL2 + EBR Rotor are mounted on my bike ! It took only 9 mounths :black_eyed:.

By the way, I had also the exhaust ceramic coated.
My "new" bike looks great !

Before :

After :

So. Was it worth it ? Hell no, it does not brake that much better. But the feeling is different. I have to pull the lever much more than with the ZTL1. But it is also much more smouther and less "on/off". I feel like I can dose the brake much more easily than before.
Do I wish I did not do it and kept my money ? Again : hell no. I feel like I have a brand new bike !

Your bike looks great,

1. What MC did you use ? You should be able to adj the lever pull.
2. You might have air in the lines.
3. You should have major better brakes. I did when I did the conversion.
4. How many miles since you did this, are the pads bedded in ?

The regular ZTL2 one for XB12. Buell part number H0507.1AMD

I dont think so as the Buell dealer did it. And, so far, every time there was, even a very little problem, he dealed with it before giving my bike back. By the way, it brake hard, no problem about that. It is just that I have to pull the lever much more than with ZTL1

3. You should have major better brakes. I did when I did the conversion.
I think I do. Did not have time to use the bike a lot so far. And I wont be able to use it before at least 10 days.

4. How many miles since you did this, are the pads bedded in ?
I think the dealer did it. At least he definitly tried it as the brake rotor had some marks on it proving that it was used, at least, a little.
So, how many mile ? 40 miles maybe ? Not much more for sure !
