2-stroke oil experiment.

goose: I got more time now so Ill give a little background. This started out as just a way to help a guy in Brazil get some lube on his fuel pump but as I researched it I discovered that Harley guys have been doing this for a long time and the Hot Rod corvette and Mustang guys are running this. At such a light ratio, modern synthetic 2-cycle burns extremely clean. Its 02 safe and its basically a better version of running Marvel Mystery Oil in your fuel. Basically what you are doing is restoring modern highly refined fuel into something that is more like the way gasoline used to be when it was oily but this version contains a synthetic oil that was made to burn from day one so its cleaner. What it is doing is going in and lubing and cleaning valves , sealing rings better and probably lubing cylinder walls. The Hot rod guys have used this for years and years, then removed heads to find them clean as a whistle, no O2 problems nor problems with cats... you get better acceleration, better fuel economy and the oil results came back way better than normal.. what we are mostly talking about is what 2-cycle would be the best for the XB. What burns cleanest? Im actually using a synthetic for air cooled garden tools... the Hot Rod car guys found that the Marine 2-cycle worked but that it left some dirt in the intake, it didn't cause any problems but they stopped using it. Im thinking that 2T or weedeater oil is going to be the cleanest... its probably going to be one of those two..

Trying it starting tomorrow. Just changed my oil/primary and going to put some 2 cycle in the fuel tank at fill up. 2 questions:

Do you guys put in the 2cy after fill up or before?

Reading through here I cannot tell how many oz per tank... 1oz or 2oz?

AFTER you fill up.. I started at 1 oz per tank to make sure all was well , then I bumped it up to 2 oz per tank because it felt better. That will work out to about 1 part per 300. That still should be safe because we aren't running cats but Im not going to go above that just to be sure. 1oz was noticeable... 2oz was more effective. Im staying with that unless anyone wants to try 3 oz and get back with us.

Expect a few failed starts on the first tank or so.. after that its smooth sailing.. I don't know why but everyone seems to go through a little adjustment period.

I thought the Corvette folks we sticking to the marine TCW3 oil? Granted the Buell may have different requirements being aircooled.

I think with the JASO FC or JASO FD (or TCW3), you will get a clean burn and there shouldn't be any deposits left behind. Actually to the contrary, components will be cleaned.

So here's some food for thought the xb12ss has a larger fuel capacity than some of the other models. In theory wouldn't you add a bit more than 2 oz to get the same ratio?

In theory, yes.

Figure out the size of your tank and use the desired ratio to add the appropriate amount of oil.

You'll have to do some calculations, as every vehicle will have a different tank size and different tolerance for the oil.

With 2oz in a SS, you'll be fine.

I put 30ml in before fill up of 2.5 gallons and shake the bike back and forth a bunch for good measure. I don't know if its the Jagermister shot bottle of 2 stroke I dump in at the pump or the shaking that gets the weird looks. It could just be that I'm on a BUELL...

^^ haha

Genius!!! I was wondering how I was going to carry two ounces of 2cy to the pump. Jager shooters!

I only used the Jäger bottle because it's glass and big enough for 2fill ups. I replaced the styrofoam seal in the cap with one cut out of the seal in a old 2stroke cap. I didn't want the foam to melt and end up in my tank...

I've been running about 2.5 oz in my ss. I want to say she has almost a 4 gallon tank. I definitely want to start buying the 2 stroke oil by the quart it would be cheaper that way. I do know she doesn't like the super tec 2 stoke from Walmart that stuff burns like garbage. Just FYI

I think Ill eventually go over to something badass and exotic like Bell-Ray. The Jager bottle idea is real good.. Im basically just using a plastic e-liquid bottle.. I checked my cabinet and found a cool glass bottle used by Halo brand e-liquid that would work. Its cobalt blue glass.. it would be cool to glue a metal Pegasus motif on it.

s0dshi: yeah you would be correct on putting it in before you pump the gas.. they way he asked that question made me picture it in my mind going down a different way. I was picturing him pouring it in on an empty tank at his house and then running up to the gas station on it ...THEN filling up the tank.
but yeah, has long as he brings the 2-cycle with him to the pump.. put the oil in first then fill up the tank , youre right.

hey dad lol is that an app you can download? I was going to say to get the correct ratio of fuel to oil wouldn't you have to run the tank dry? I add mine ever other tank to keep the ratio close.
