2-stroke oil experiment.

This might be an odd question, but could someone post a picture of the 2-stroke oil bottle they are using? I really want to give this a shot on all my bikes, but would like to visually see the bottle everyone is using.

Also would there be a different oil used for liquid cooled bikes versus air cooled bikes? I have an Ultra, sportster, blast, BSA, Husqvarna 250 (4-stroke), and an 1125R.

I understand its about 1-2oz per tank of fuel, is that correct?

Thanks.

OK, I'm in. I'm on my 3rd tank of 40 ml in a 08 XB12 scg. I'm using the green Home Depot homelite full synthetic 2stroke variety. So far so good. It's been hot here in NorCal and the bike has been too. I'm on the last 120 miles of break in using conventional oil before I can use the Amsoil so I'll have to deal with the heat for another couple days.

It is way smoother and power is nice even though I haven't opened'er up yet...

This is a brand new full rebuild and the old heads were caked with thick carbon, I'm hoping this will help prevent future buildup.

RBlaster: the amount of 2-cycle added to the tank is dictated by the maximum capacity of the given fuel tank. The ratio you want is between 1 part oil to 600 parts fuel (1:600) all the way up to 1 part oil to 300 parts fuel (1:300) In a XB tank that is 20ml - 40ml ( about 1oz to 2oz)

You have to pull out you calculator and do conversions from Standard to Metric and all that but you will figure out what it takes per gallon and just add up from there. ( 1 quarter of an ounce per gallon up to 1/2 ounce per gallon)

yes there is liquid cooled oil and air cooled oil.... not sure if it makes a big different in this application. Just find a full synthetic 2-cycle that you are willing to pay for and that seems good to you and start with that. Only thing we are looking for is some lube in the fuel that will be as clean burning as possible.

I've seen several people ask questions about which brand of 2 stroke oil to use. If you looking for a recommendation, Pennzoil 2-Cycle Air Cooled Engine Oil would be an excellent choice, if you can find it.

So my Right side carbon scoop came in from Bestem and I went out for a ride... 20w-60HD, 40ml Homelite over 93 octane, race ecm 1203 with Jardine carbon. Just a few min into the ride my fuel light came on.. ran it for 10 miles all was well... topped up with 93 octane .. headed back home for my 2-cycle oil.. the 10 miles back it started popping a bit like it normally does... got home and top up with 40ml 2-cycle.. smoothed back out and rode it for about 45 min in all conditions .. traffic, freeway a mix of everything... it was SWEET AS HELL.. I started tearing it out of the frame as much as I could to get the heat up... then headed back home.. stopped the bike and NOTHING .. NO FAN!! Ambient temp was 93F.. not having my fan click on was a first for the 1203.... so, seems that the 1203 responds about the same as my 984 did... 60 weight, 2 scoops and 40ml 2-cycle... that's how I roll now. "WITNESS"

you want that **** on video huh? I should go borrow my buddies gopro and show you this **** man..

Naah, I'm only teasing.

I'm already running the experiment on my 2009 XB9SX, 2012 Audi A4 Avant and 2002 Jeep Liberty.

All three vehicles have responded exceptionally well.

My 12 is a daily commuter. I ride about 60-90 miles round trip in freeway and in-town city street traffic. Cali roads are pretty fast pace, 80mph is just keeping up with the flow of traffic. I was whipping through some gaps to hit open road and was blown away with how much pull the bike has in 5th. 105 seemed to just happen and I realized I it was time to relax a bit.
Thanks for exposing us to this stuff Gloomshadow.
I'm using 30ml per 2.5 gallon fill up at the moment. I like the results so far...

I'm ready!

Weather sucks in Southern Hemisphere. Now that it is better, I'm recovering from some flu...
Hopefully I'll be able to ride a bit next week.

Alright before everyone goes dumping stuff in their tank, and please correct me if I am wrong, I am not too familiar with the xb valvetrain and I did not read all 6 pages of this thread. So if I am blabbering on along the ditz train please excuse.

You will experience certain benefits through having a lubricant in the fuel. This being the case because under normal circumstances the only lubricant touching the valves is the fuel, which normally has no lubricant additive. 2 smoke mix being an exception. A mix provides additional lubrication through intermittent use potentially prolonging valve life and could possibly provide additional performance at high engine speeds. On the downside you will experience additional carbon and residue buildup. Potentially leading to premature valvetrain failure if used consistently.

My $.02 anyways.

Debunk me please because I truly wish to believe in some magical concoction that will make my bike more awesome. Not trying to be a dick. I'm serious lol

not magical and has been used in hot rodding at these ratios for decades with oil data to back it up.. read the six pages. the ratio is 600 to 1 or 300 to 1...
