Just wondering if any one has thoughts on the following:

Start the bike (see the Vtwin symbol) it goes out in 5 seconds start the bike.
After bike started 5 seconds later (symbol or CEL light if you will) comes back on.
Ten seconds after it comes back on it goes off and all set until the next time the bike is started.

I even tried not starting the bike after the light goes off the first time and saw this sequence play out --- so the starting or not starting of the bike makes no matter. Bike runs great and this is fairly new 3,000 miles 6 months of ownership. Just wondering if this is indicative of an issue that will soon worsen or if it is just the OBD having some memory lapses? Thanks very much for any thoughts on this....[cool]

Thank you. So you can check codes even if light does NOT stay on? It is only on for literally an extra 10 seconds (coming back on that second time 5 seconds after it goes out and then you start it). Then it goes off and does not come back on while you have it on/riding it. Biggest reason I have not worried too much about it

It's an original exhaust - really odd b/c it plays out this sequence exactly 5 seconds on (as it should be) only to come back exactly 5 seconds later and then to go out 10 seconds after that ... RIGHT on the second... Its like the computer is going through its checks and finds something yet always yet okays it thereafter....[confused]

i want to say its reading a` blown fuse signal somewhere in the circuit. seems like this is what was happening on my firebolt when the fan went out. but my headlight wires were loose too at the time.

Do a voltage test at the Battery very soon!. Set meter to DCV= Direct Currant Volts on a digital meter if have one now while the bike HAS ALREADY been Prepared with Battery Exposed put Meter leads on the Battery Terminals and Start the bike watch the meter.. Does the Meter go up OR Down in Voltage when the light comes on?
You can also expose the Data Port plug and Short terminals 1 and 2 like the picture here in this posting with bike Key Switch off once connected the terminals in data port . Now turn on the Key turn on & Start/Kill Button do not start the bike.
watch for the blinks to come on Yellow Cel. Light. There should be 6 fast flashes then a 2 second pause then a few blinks[ count those] before it pauses again for 2 seconds. then Start the Bike. Remove the Wire in the data port plug while the Engine is running DO NOT LET the Wires Touch any other Terminals inside the Data Port Plug.
Turn [off] the Bike Kill Switch first then Key switch. After the wire is removed and bike is shut down. NOW restart the Engine as normally done..
See if that clears the code and restarts the blinking or just comes on that one time .It could be that a Historic code has not been cleared. OR something else is in need of checking .Start with a Voltage check that is easy to do. .It might be nothing but pays to be aware. and learn your bike. Go through the Forum and read up. Welcome to the Forum. *Jimi

Thank you all for the input --- I have been away from the computer for the past couple of days - otherwise I would have responded sooner. I do have a multi-meter (never used it before for direct current) but will give it a try ... Again thanks for the input --- I will share what I find out ... Ps... I really love this bike --- 46 - riding since 16 --- have had so many bikes - especially the past 10 years --- currently with a Bandit and an SV - but this bike is truly the one that stirs the soul. Great people on this forum - much appreciated.

I wanted to indicate how my inquiry played out in case others have the same question and search this string.
I reviewed the owner's manual and did suggest that stored codes would be saved for up to 50 run cycles --- start the bike and having it run for a relatively short period of time and then would automatically be removed.

So constant CEL (existing problem). The CEL coming on after going out the first time in the sequence I noted was suggestive of a problem that occurred but was no longer playing out which is why it would then go off. Sure enough today it the CEL coming on and then going off finally stopped reappearing as the stored code finally removed itself.

Thanks everyone.[up]
