bar end mirrors

K, went with a cheapo set of mtn bike mirrors (Axiom) on my bike. Have Rizoma bars and made a threaded insert for them. Work awesome, need a little refinement on the brackets, but have convinced me that bar ends are the way to go. With the stock mickey mouse ears all I could see were my shoulders, Oberon, Rizoma, all good. May end up makin my own. Bar ends are definately the way to go tho'[up]

Falcon - I have pro-taper bars that have a real small ID. not sure what the stock bars were. I bought them online... I'll try and find the site again. I love them, no vibration at all.

I read some of the previous threads and have to make a comment on looking down at the mirrors. I used to find myself looking in the stock mirrors all the time, now I only look when stopping or changing lanes. I think it is actually safer (for me anyway) I am less distracted while riding, I don't find myself wandering between looking forward and looking in the mirror's anymore.

Wow, these oberons look great!!!
How hard is to get those "pins" that holds the hnad-guards off the bars on the XB9S? Does it give a headache?

Evlxb - was just thinking the same thing the other day. when i noticed my right side was slightly off and couldn't see the road. so next time i stopped i fixed it. then it occured to me, I hardly ever look in them anymore except when I "need" to see what's behind me. Yet i know earlier i was always glancing here and there. So they work, and I also spend less time looking at what's behind me, and more time what's in front

Ok. I just lost my head and could not stand another second with the big bug eye mirrors. I stopped by Cycle Gear and bought some bar end mirrors off the shelf (and some LED Turn Signals!). They (the mirrors) would not expand quite enuff to fit inside the bar but I did the electrical tape mod. All good now. Plenty of visibility and NO VIBRATION! Rock on! Love 'em. Just could not wait for the Oberons!

Thanks for the incentive though!

EVLXB that bike looks killer...LOVE the mirrors especially. Bike just sits "right" but.....is that front tire mounted backwards or is it just me?

How do you remove the stock plugs in the end of the bars to get the new mirrors on. I have a set of Oberons on the way.

Vise Grips! :p Most just rip them out. No bolts or tricks, they're just pressed & glued in I believe.

My first post here and thought some of you may find this photo interesting/amusing.

It was a comparison test only! The mirrors are WFO. Image clarity was about equal but of course the bar-end ones had a better field of view at the expense of making the bike wider. Mostly I use the stalk mounting but in winter the bar-enders come into their own for seeing past bulkier clothing.

The ideal place for mirrors really is as close to your eyes as possible but that brings its downsides.

In my experience you do get used to bar-end mirrors but it does take longer to check them. The best mirrors I've had were the low ones on a Honda ST1100. Wierd at first but a wonderful view once you get the hang of it.

Sort of scared me with that last pic until you mentioned it was for a test only.

Your bike could use a few more bolt-ons, but this is what I thought of as soon as I seen your bike.

Spent a little time in Iraq.

I like my handguards on my XB9sx, but I want to try bar end mirrors. Anyone have any ideas how to have both?

yes i do have an idea but it would take some custom machining. a custom bolt for the hand guard could be made with a large OD so the mirror part could clamp to that instead of the insert it comes with.

or you could try this

I was thinking about doing something like that but I think the throttle side would bind? Are those bicycle mirrors? Thanks for the ideas...

my left size on my TT fit fine without any modification.. i bought the stuff from americansportbike for the right side tho, cause there was no way i could have it against the grip rubber on the throttle side, way too tight there
i just came on to make sure i could just yank out the end plugs and not worry about them heh
ill take a pic and let u know how the ASB kit works out for the right side

Ok the ASB kit worked fine. Quick n easy. It took the tiniest amount of force more than my delicate unmanly hands could muster to remove the plastic ends that the handguards attach to. I was promptly kidnapped from the garage to go grocery shopping. So I'll put pics of parts up later.

ok
so from left to right...
1-bar end that came with TT(handguard barend for buells)
2-bar end adapter that came with cheapo mirrors from cyclegear(no handguard clip, nor does the hardware from the ASB kit fit this barend)
3-package from asb containing their barend(same as above basically- but diff screw threads and such)
4-the hardware package from asb to make #3 work with handguards
5-what is replaced in #3 by #4
