hi everyone. i recently purchased a 03 xb9r from priginal owner with 4,000 miles on it i belive he used it at a trak as there were sun marks from where stickers were and also he had a kill switch installed and battery tie down metal strap. but my problem is as everyone else with the ignition not always working right, turn the key on sometime nothing sometimes everything lights up and fuel pump primes, the real problem is now is that every single time i tap the brakes and send a current through the brake light wires everything dies and i have to cycle the key off then back on to restart it. it also does it when i hit that little button on the left to flash the high beams. and when i disconect both front and rear brake wires and depress eaither or brake it does not shut off but once conected again it kills it. so i took a volt meater to them and as soon as i touch them and get a reading it kills. i have tried switching the 3 relays around and all act the same, also no fuses are blown, i traced the wires with the seat and rear plastics off and no worn or broken wires. i tried finding a wireing diagram for the relay boc but cant. also just any other advice for when eaither brake wires get power or that headlight flash switch on the left i hear the relays click then dies. please any advice! personal pics? wire diagrams for brake lights and that one highbeam switch, wireing diagram for relay box? color coded wires? thank you anyone with info!

rear brake wires i tested and causes fault same as front brake wires but when both are unpluges can use brakes with no engine or eletronic failure

front brake light conector when unplugges same as rear when used cnan stop bike and does not kill engine or elronics. but when plugged in or when tested as same as rear and used causes engine and eletronic shut off causeing me to cycle key off them back on before i am able to srat it again, as if it is resetting it some how.
 
Theres obviously a short in the brake wiring somewhere. All i can suggest, unless someone knows a simpler solution, is to follow the wires through and make sure none are frayed/damaged/exposed.
 
Ok it also happens when I press the switch for the light flasher I take a picture of the switch when I get a chance is there a place where these two items mee up in the wire harness or possibly relay? Anywhere when these two separate items are used cause same failure? Thanks for you're reply

always a sure fire way to fix it. bikes arent big and dont have very much wiring so it shouldnt be hard.
 
Ok I will be taking all plastics off and tracing wires if the new relays do not work, my question is does anyone know off hand where the high beam wires and the brake light wires " intersect " at all? Or how they are separate . Wires how they cause the same action as killing everything I'm sorry I'm upswing my phone so I don't know how to download the wireing diagram.
 
Well just got new relays from Harley. Narrowed it down the the ignition the key is loose and wobbly inside like a Thailand hooker. So when it goes onto run to start or run the bike you can move it around a little bit and if I hold it still towards the left with some pressure and aply te brakes Or high beam light it's all fine but when I let go and it fall in its place when I aply brake it must break a connection inside I will post a video later today.

thank you, now i eaither need to buy a whole enw ignition. or does anyone please have a way to dissasenble the igniton? or is that a no no sad to say i realy dont have the money for a new set! :(

ok so after reading xooming printing cropping and printing the wire diagram it is impossible to read anything on the wire diagram. so what my brilliant (not) mind has decided untill i can afford a whole set if i can find one i will try to wire a wsitch i can unplug when i park that will act as an ignition! no bashing just need a little help as the wire diagram is hard to even see line let alone letters. so we have a black/red wire. (2) plain seperate red wires, and one red/grey wire. what combination will i need to conect to have lights and power and ignition? in a switch. aslco there is a "jumper" inside the ignition itself that jumps the red wire to a little spot al confusing if you have not taken one apart as i will be posting pics shortly
 
Lets see here-

B.17-21 (Adobe 25-29/566)

The red/black goes to the relay center.
The red/gray goes to 'accessory' fuse, comes out orange/white picks up flashers, cluster (12), and goes to the tail light...hmm

The 2 reds are (really 1 ahead of the connector)power 'in' from key switch fuse.
The jumper gets power to another point in the switch.

2 switches-
Put a toggle on/off to the r-r/gy,
and a momentary on to the r-r/bk
