50dro, I am definitely a yinzer, although living in the south for a while I also say yall now too...

Cool! What part "y'all" from? (sorry for the thread jack but you used the shirt! ;) )

Thanks guys. The o rings I found at harbor freight said for fuel connection use they were safe. I replaced all except the large ones but they are not leaking so I'm not worried about it.

I didn't start the bike because it's not really stable. It was also almost 11pm when I finished. I'll get to it friday night, it should work(that's why I did the diagnostics to make sure it seemed like it was going to work).

BTW, I was pretty shocked with how much "gunk" or "stuff" was in the bottom of the tank and on the pump housing...

Cool! I grew up in Beaver Falls but am in Cranberry Twp now...Carry on! ;) (we can chat more at the Dragon...

Actually it's starting to stress me now cause we're taking your truck to the Dragon

BTW I did get my truck fixed wednesday night as well. So we are good to go in that fashion. Hopefully this fuel pump fix was correct. I'll ride the bike a little sunday to be sure.

First, awesome write up.

See the cylinder clipped in near the top of the housing body with a gray wire connected to a yellow wire with the red stripe? That's the fuel level sensor. I believe it's a resistance-type grounding sensor

I see Al has all the o-rings, filter/strainer and return filter for around $30 or so. My '08 is coming up on 25k mi and I've considered accumulating all the parts in advance so when my pump begins showing signs of failure I'll be GTG. All the in-tank pumps I've ever changed were due to clogged filters which cause the pump to work harder, overheat and cook themselves. Once the fuel level drops below the pump body there's little or nothing to cool the pump

Thanks again for the info [up]

He doesn't have the o rings or just the pump (only the assembly), from what I see. Not that I don't like ASB, but you can buy everything at autozone significantly cheaper. If he carried the pump it might be worth spending a little more to get the EXACT oem replacement. The mustang one works and I believe it's the same but like I described above the fittings are slightly different size, the screen is slightly different, etc.

As an update, I rode my bike all weekend at the dragon and it ran great the whole time. I don't know how many miles I put on but probably 200-300+ so I'd say this works.

Great info to have! I wonder if the fuel pressure is the same as the OEM pump? Must be pretty close if the bike is running OK.

Seeing as the pump appears to be identical, I think it's the same. I think the pump puts out more psi anyway, and the regulator holds the psi back to the injectors. The bike's running great and strong so it must be ok...

I wish they would sticky my intake gasket thread. It covered a bunch of points that could help even an average Joe swap their gaskets. I love when people post tutorials. Helps us keep these legacy Buells going for cheap.

^I would also like to see your thread as a sticky, it was very good, and I will be using it probably later this year...

I've been reading for at least an hr now on how to do this and what pump to use. I have an 09 xb12ss. I need clarification on what pump to use that will bolt in the easiest. Walbro? Airtex? The reason for confusion is I've noticed discrepencies in what pump to use in an 09. What sock, what filter?
Thanks
Ken

Do I have to prospect for a year and beat a Kawasaki with a pick handle to earn my colors around here? Stand outside in the cold watching the bikes? Come on guys help me out.
Ken

Is there a difference between the years and models? Like the ebay one just posted and an 1125 one?
