Here you go kona, the video came out pretty good. The noises you hear are me turning the key to ignition on, kill switch to on, fuel pump prime, then kill switch off and key off.

Finished replacing the fuel pump in my 04 XB12S. This write up made it very easy. However, the Autozone fuel pump mentioned earlier in this post was not the right one. Totally different top on the fuel pump (see pic below).
Found an Airtex E2061 at O'Reilly's that matched up and finished installing this evening (see pic below).
Took her for a 40 mile ride and made a big difference. The original strainer was filthy and the fuel pump was clogged up. New fuel pump, strainer, and filter and she is running MUCH spunkier.

For the newer pumps, ie my 2009 XB12R, here are some replacement part numbers that may be helpful.....
Fuel pump strainer: Airtex FS213
Fuel pump filter: Puralator F29160

Does anyone know if the one used by snrusnak fits the 09? Mine just went..
I believe 03 is the same as the 05 I did. I think the pump changed in a later year but I don't know when but I'd guess 09 might be different. I did mine without taking the swingarm off, it was honestly VERY difficult to do that way but is doable. I got it out ok, getting it in was a different story. I actually cut off a piece of the bracket to fit it back in.

I didn't remove my swingarm either when I rebuild my fuelpump assembly.
What I did was supported the bike from the rear subframe. I did this using some heavy duty eyebolts I have strategically positioned in the main rafter of my garage. Once I had the bike securely supported I removed the rear wheel and disconnected the rear shock from the rear swingarm. This allows the swing to fall down just enough to give the wiggle room necessary to remove the fuel pump assembly. I believe that I had to turn my assembly about a quarter turn clockwise in order to get it out. It may have been counter clockwise. Anyway, remember which way you had to turn it in order to get it out. You'll have to do the opposite in order to get it back in. Just take your time and dont get frustrated. Just remember your saving yourself a ton of money doing this yourself and you'll have the satisfaction knowing you're a motorcyclist that ACTUALLY works on the bike you own!

The 08-09 have a Deutsch-type electrical connector (ask me how I know) and the strainer/prefilter is different. Other than that, same pump, same inline filter as 03-07. I've yet to confirm a good p/n for the strainer on 08-09's

Got all my parts. Got the Airtex E2061 as stated above and I have a quick question for those who purchased this pump.
I was looking through the parts, inspecting them after delivery. I was looking at the pump and I rotated it back and forth and I can hear, what I believe to be a ball bearing(s) rolling around. Sounds like its coming from the copper shaft.
Is this normal? I believe it might be, but I just wanted to check and see if this was the same for others who purchased this pump.
Found the pump on Amazon for $48 bucks, rather than the $95 from Autozone. With the possible savings I went ahead and purchased other items, since I was going to be in there anyways. Most of the items I bought from ASB, since they are so close to me. And in the end, wasn't going to save much money ordering from Harley sites, plus I would have to wait minimum 7 days. I got my order within a day from ASB and Amazon.

- low level sensor (not working now) (ASB)
- fuel filter (ASB)
- Airtex strainer (just in case OEM doesn't work) (Amazon)
- fuel pump o-rings (ASB)
- fuel injectors (front & rear) (ASB)
- intake seals (ASB)

If I had just purchased stuff for the pump rebuild I would still be under $140. Now let's see how my patience holds up.

There are some other strainers that work with the same mount but the Airtex FS213 has the best fit. It has a half moon shape and fits perfect inside the fuel pump assembly. I reused my o-rings by lubing and gently pushing them back in with a small screwdriver as I slid the pump back in. Probably recommend replacing them as mine were stretched out but I made it work.
