Go pro?

I'm looking into buying a go pro . What do I want ? Should I spend the cash and get the hero3 ? I'm going to use it mainly for kayaking,downhill mountin biking and snowmobiling. I don't realy care what it looks like. Quality picture is my only concern.

What features should I be looking for. I'm guessing I need a helmet mount and a chest strap. Can I cheap out and get a older version or would I be disapointed?

Any sugestions are apriciated , thanks

Read the reviews on amazon. It's a don't buy right now they have issues. I was looking into getting one as well but after reading all the problems they are having with the 3 I think I'll wait till they get them ironed out.

i have a hero hd 2 and i love it. mine came with 2 curved and 2 flat sticky universal mounts, vented helmet mount, and a head strap mount. so i got alot of bang for my buck. i ended up buying a nvg mount for my combat helmet. for use during training. it takes excelent videos and pics. i would recomend the battery bacpak. double the battery. havnt looked at the hero 3 yet so couldnt tell you.

I borrowed the Hero 2 from my office and it was awesome. No complaints and it even took a spill off the top of my helmet (low speed) and didn't miss a beat.

Unless you're planning an using footage for part of a big video or small movie I'd save the money from the Hero 3 and go with a Hero 2. The quality is really good with regard to function and image quality, especially compared to the first Hero. Sure it's not the newest, latest and coolest looking GoPro but the Hero 2 can more than handle the job.

Hero3 comes in 3 editions, black, silver and white. All three are smaller and have integrated wifi and a new flat lense on the case (eliminates underwater distortion problems hero2 had) But after that they are very different beast and its buyer beware.

So the black edition is top of the line. It has better low light performance and the picture is sharper due to a better lense and photo sensor. It also has higher resolutions and a few more modes then the hero2.

But all that applies to the BLACK EDITION ONLY and this is where the buyer beware comes into play.

The white edition is just a re-bodied hero hd, and the silver edition is a re-bodied hero2. Both add wifi, and the silver edition adds protune mode, but that can be added to the existing hero2 via a firmware update!

So basically if you want a hero3, you'd better go for the top of the line black edition, the other 2 are just trick marketing and offer nothing more than the hero2 as far as image quality, and I suspect the white edition my even be worse in some situations.

For the average user the hero 2 is more bang for your buck by far!

Ive got the first gen as well and quite frankly forget about it. I was a little discouraged on how long it takes to upload the video into a format my ipad can use for editing. I guess that's what you get when you get such high resolution.

good reminder to get the gopro out and start using it again!

That's actually what I asked my wife to get me for Christmas but she ended up getting me the GoPro 3. I really liked the idea of how compact the contour was.

Still happy with the GoPro though [up]

I've never seen them side by side. The contour just appears more sleek and compact but I also just researched myself and saw it with the waterproof case and damn that thing is big.

Now I guess I have to admit the wife did good
