Headlight Mod - Both Lights On w/ Hi-Beam

Apparently I'm the idiot that this isn't "proof'd" for. No luck on releasing the wires so far. I've run pins down both sides, and pried everywhere I can pry, and nothing moves. I'm trying to be real careful not to bugger the female terminals, as I don't want to end up with the problem the OP had. Are the retaining tabs in the white piece in the sides or on the top (opposite the split in the female connectors)?
The trick is in finding the sweet spot and the wire pops out with a light tug using your fingers only. If you look into the open end, you will notice the terminal occupying only about one half of the space with a plastic /\ shaped devider directly underneath the terminal starting about halfway down the tube - thats what holds it locked. Take the nail (make sure its thin 1-2mm and pointed) and angle it upwards between the legs of the plastic /\ and lightly apply pressure while tugging at the wire and it should release fairly easy. Note: If you are prying inside the metal area youre in the wrong place and you will damage the terminal. Hope this helps.

Great mod! I'll definitely doing this next on my bike. Is there a way to wire the high beam "trigger" so it can still work when low beam is on? I'm so anal about having "dead" stuff on my scoot. Hopefully someone can figure this one out...

[confused]

Doing this mod you lose your park lights on steering lock, you do know that

There are better ways to do this mod

Matt

Yeah but I'd rather lose that function though (which I've never used/had on my other bikes) than to lose the trigger. I haven't seen anything simpler...or 'free'-er.

wait I did this mod and I still have the flash to pass and paring lights[confused]

Yer with the wire swap mod you still get your flash function, you just lose your pak lights function when you lock your steering, cause it turns on the low beam

FANTASTIC write up!!! [up] This is my favorite mod to date! I was getting tired of hearing everyone tell me "dude, you've got a light out...". Well, I don't now! Thanks again!:D

Thanks for the tip bbuell. I'll give it another try when things warm up a little. I'd pretty well decided to say screwit.

I did this mod on my Buell XB9S today :)

My question is,how to install HID to my bike? Can i have this mod so i have Hid´s in both lights??

Montana, welcome to the best Buell site out there IMO

this site has great 'search' capabilites
you just click on 'search' enter what your looking for, (hells you can even narrow it down to a certain sub category...)
here is but one of the threads a search for 'HID's' that came up...
hope that helps with any info or questions you may have...

Well I am and IDIOT! The orange wire broke off of the connector, and now the connector is stuck in the plastic housing. I tried to get it out for an hour, but all I am doing is expanding the plastic.

What should I do?

Considering I just bought the bike new, what can I do to not void the warranty.

Already voided the warranty by breaking the wire yourself ;) not to worry though. You'll need a very small flat blade screw driver to push down the inner locking tab and then something small and pointy to push the pin out while holding the tab down. It's a PITA. Been there done that.

Since I broke the wire, do I pry the old connector apart and attempt to re crimp it, or do I try to solder the broken wire to the connector?

I take it this was on the harness side? You can get it all apart and then re-solder everything to look like new again :)

Exactly. If you can get the wire out of the pin, just strip and recrimp or solder it. Once it's back together, I'd seriously doubt any tech would go looking at it if there's an electrical issue down the road. Just make it look untouched.
