Headlight Mod - Both Lights On w/ Hi-Beam

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but this mod is about 1000 times easier if you switch the pins on the female connector rather than the male connector.

I too went this route - couldn't release the pins from the upper connector.

Great mod, no more "you have a light out" from everyone.

Argh! First time I did this in a few minutes, this time I feel like I'm just making the connectors worse the more I try.

Hopefully I'll have better luck with her bottoms. I usually do.[cool]

hey great mod! thanks for the info. was easy after figuring out how the pins were held in, only took a few minutes. lost the parking lights on my '09 cityx but never used them anyways![up]

if you're having trouble with the pins, there is a little white block at each one that needs to be pushed away from the pin before it can be backed out. they are very small and a little hard to see. this is looking at the male pins down inside the connector. i used a safety pin to hold the tab back while i pushed the electrical pin out with a pocket screwdriver.

Also, has anyone ever tried to rotate the high beam light reflector in the XBS model so that it becomes a low beam reflector?

Can't be done

Optics don't quite work that way but also the reflectors are one piece, as in the high beam and low beam are molded out of one piece of plastic.

You need to check your voltage regulator, our bikes are known to burn them up over time. Sounds like yours is having the symptoms. Get it looked at before it burns out your stator.

Just switched the wires around on mine...thank you, six years later and finally two lights! No more people telling me to replace my headlight.

All,
Took a few but found a old school tool that worked great!

has any one had any electrical issues after doing this?

below is a screen shot of a spreadsheet that contains electrical load information...

just wanted to know if my battery or charging system will be under any extra load as a result of having both lights on all the time.

Yes they will be under extra load, the energy needs to come from somewhere.

But it is well within the capabilities of the bike to produce that energy, the additional load is minuscule relative to the draw of other common accessories (especially what people add on to a uly, that has the same electrical generation system)

Take a look at the uly police bike it has strobes siren radio hook ups and what ever else an moto officer uses and super bright LED's and maybe heated grips. All on the same electrical generation system as your bike. So in comparison one extra light bulb will make very little difference

I did this mod yasterday and only took me 15 mins.

looks great and im sure will be safer during the day and night.

might post a pic later but im sure you all know what it will look like.:D

started to this mod and just could get the pigtails to come out. so instead of breaking something i was going to cut and splice. As i started to dig i found a small light in the middle of the high&low beam, with no light in it. The orange&black were going to it the yellow&black to the low beam and white&black to the high beam can any one tell me what this means? and what that extra light is?

It's the parking lamp socket. It was used on the Euro models and lights when the key is turned back into the Park position. They just left it empty for the U.S. You can throw in a 194 or 195 bulb if you want. (Added Pic below to save you the trouble)

ok that makes sense, thanks. just look at that wiring that doesn't look like hd would do that.[smirk] I think the previous owner got to it before I did.
