decided to black out the gold inserts on the bike - easier to keep clean, bit of a meaner look. redid them in gold a few months ago, but every little scuff mark shows up.

the scrape marks are from me forgetting the added width of the boxes when trying to squeeze into tight spaces!

also redoing the tank decals in either a flat black or carbon look vinyl.

To all you Buelly owners in and from SA, I have had a good time reading through your comments and information. I am an ex Vaalie from Johannesburg, but now live in Hobart, Tasmania. 4 months ago I bought the very last brand spanking new Buell Ulysses XB12X that was available in Australia, nonetheless, it is a 2009 model. I have also experienced a bit of popping/backfiring, especially when pulling off with lower revs and when pulling up. The bike is about to go in for its first service (1600 Km) with the local Harley dealer in Hobart, so hoping they can sort it out. Magic bike otherwise. Have had it on gravel roads too, no problem with it handling them. Anyone among you that has changed the bars ?

still running stock bars - works for me.
did do exhaust mod an painted some plastics, but otherwise pretty stock.

I would love to get X-model front fender - I think it looks meaner than the XT's one. Enjoy it!

I do! It is a really fun bike to ride - even on gravel (and for me it is huge, as I have no gravel experience).

Hi Wally,
I reckon as long as you are sensible about how you ride on gravel, you really shouldn't have any problems. I have taken mine up to 120 K's on gravel, but then the surface was real good and I could see for at least 900 metres ahead. One of the guys who responded some time back on this forum had pictures where his rear frame had broken, I am thinking he must have been on some fairly bumpy or rutted roads for that to have happened. Does the bottom yoke of your triple clamps have the holes drilled and threaded for the X model front fender to fit onto, although I suppose it couldn't be too difficult to get machined up. I again like the fender as located on your model. There are a few Buells here in Tasmania and the local Harley shops look after servicing.

I am not sure - i will have to check. I normally know I am going too fast when I feel the back moving a bit on gravel. I just don't want to put the bike down - ever!

Been exceptionally hot here this week - 38 deg C yesterday and my right leg was cooking! I need to make a plan...

Hi Wally and other SA/Cape Town Buelers.
Just read your posts. I think you emailed me shortly after I got my Ulysses. I live in the deep south but when I registered I must have been a bit tired and misspelled SOUTH. Now it's SOUTH with a slure......shouth. Anyway just to let you know I live in Glencairn (near Simonstown) and own a black 2006. I have seen another Uly heading toward Kommetjie, a blue 2008 (I think) but every time I see it I am in a 4x4 and can't give chase. If I was on my bike and gave chase the other rider would probably say "DICE" and leave me standing anyway.
When I have a bit more time I will post pics and tales.

hey Deep - got some extended family out in Fishhoek/Simonstown area. I have seen very little Ulys on the road, but have met 2 guys at shops engaging in chats - both Uly owners!

Seen 1 or 2 XBs on the road and that's about it! CT guys should get together!
