Shouts of compliments to my Buell from strangers on the road

So I'm getting some lunch yesterday and I see 3 stereotypical frat guys staring at my bike as they walk into the same place. As they walk in I hear one of them say "yeah, but they eat belts like a snowmobile." Where do people come up with this ****? I guess if your sled gets 20,000+ miles out of a belt then yeah I guess it does. That was also the time they noticed me sitting there with my helmet on the table and they got quiet and stopped talking about motorcycles.

I was out this weekend. I stopped at a quickie mart for a Redbull and some gas. A younger guy pulled up across from me at the pump on a 90's era CBR 600 with a chick on the back. They came to a stop just as I was firing up my bike:

Him - Wow, nice bike, what is that? It sounds like a Harley

Me - Buell XB9 Lightning

Him - No, I mean is it a 600???

Me - No, it's pretty close to 1000

Him - Holy ****, that thing must be fast....

Me - Fast enough

Him - My bike flies....It can do 140 with both of us on it...

I just smiled an nodded my head and pulled away. I looked back in time to see his chick watching me ride away and trying to hide her toothless smile...

I've only had my xb12 for a little more than a month, but the amount of attention I've received on it is unlike anything I've ever experienced...unfortunately it's mostly from dudes lol. I know a bit what it feels like to be a celebrity due to random strangers waving and asking questions all the time. I was sitting at an intersection the other day and a mother had to drag her two kids across the street because the idle of my xb was too loud for them. I guess it does sound a bit like it could eat young children[mad]

I usually hear "that's a really small bike....What is it?"

Then there's the "is that a Ducati?"

My favorite is from the girls though, "I want a ride, but that's a really small seat." My reply is "just stay close and hold on tight."

What makes the attention more surprising to me is in the DC region exotic cars rarely get a second glance(probably because many owners are rich d'bags), yet the little, inexpensive, American made Buell has people staring.

Recently my friend on his BMW HP4 and I stopped at a store for snacks. A guy walking by doubled back and said what is that?? I thought for sure he was looking at the HP4, but he walked past it and started inspecting my front brake setup lol.

I think it's cool that you can have a bike that's very simple and unpretentious, yet it still receives more compliments than the current crop of high dollar superbikes.

Here in FL I was putting gas in at 7/11... I was about to fire her up and a Chrysler 300 on 24's rolls up beside me with a couple black dudes in it... all drooling over my Firebolt. So the dude in back seat leans out window and goes "Is that a 600?" ... I quickly said "1000" (even though its a 984 bla bla) ... He laughed as he was putting his head back in window and loudly said to everyone in car "That ain't no 1000" ...

Right when I heard that I fired her up and flicked the throttle up to 5K... Oh glorious airbox delete and Jardine said "ROOOOAAARRR...ROOOOAAARR"... At the same time they all said to the dude "That's a fu%$$g 1000"

Sometime I ride with Airbox cover off... Talk about a head turner/conversation starter... I'm so getting a Cherry Bomb cover now.

I was sitting at a red light and this guy pulls up next to me and says "sick bike man, did you build that thing yourself??" haha

I don't know what model Buell you guys have, but if you had a XB12 with a D&D nobody would mistake it for any 600 :D[up]

Keep 'em rolling, guys [cool][up]

Today I got the, "Hey, is that a Ducati?" ....

Last Thursday I got the, "That thing sounds like a Harley ... did you put that motor in and build that bike up yourself?" ...

Still get lots of attention from bikers and non-bikers alike beings it's literally the only buell in the town I live and hardly anybody has ever even heard of them ... and now that it's painted up, fixed up, and running right (thanks to this awesome forum and it's members) it looks good and sounds/runs great ...

My father in law thinks I ride a "f*cking harley davidson piece of sh*t" lol. Yet every time he's at the house he admires the bike. I've caught him on his knees checking out the belt tensioner, underslung exhaust, etc. I half expected him to say "oh, I fell" lol.

lol yeah he just hates HD so much. He has an sv1000 and he's always impressed that I keep up with him considering he has much more hp not to mention being a better rider and more experienced, though he won't admit it lol. He finally out ran me up in AR last summer but we were on real long sweepers, he held over 100mph for a good while and after 5 or so mintues at that speed on the buell in the 110 deg heat my bike was TOASTY and I decided to back off as I didn't want to cause any damage from overheating. He sure rubbed it in :(

/\ has he riden it yet?

Nope, and I offer all the time. I think he's afraid if he rides it he'll like it or want one lol. I'm joking but am also serious, I think he's afraid it'll be more fun than his bike. He's ridden my previous bikes but won't get on the buell.

I think he's afraid it'll be more fun than his bike.
BINGO!!

once he comes over to the dark side he knows (subconsciously) he is done for ,another Bueller in waiting
:D

My sister-in-law stopped by last night to drop off some **** for my wife. I was in the driveway "tinkering" with my bike and she strikes up a conversation with me (which is really odd since we never got along in the past):

Her - Bike looks good... What kind is it???

Me - It's a Buell

Her - I don't get the attraction...

Me - Huh??? You just said the bike looks good?!?!

Her - I like the way the bikes look and sound but I don't understand how riding is "fun".

Me - Have you ever been on a motorcycle???

Her - No

Me - [handing her a helmet] Put this on

Her - Are you serious???

Me - Hell yeah, put this on while I go get my extra helmet... I'll take you for a quick spin. It's gonna be quick because the Eagles game starts in 20 minutes.

I gave her a quick class on how to be a passenger on a bike, and took out for 10 minutes or so. She screamed/squealed/giggled the entire time.

Her - That was amazing (reaching down and touching the seat)... I'm pretty sure I understand now.

Me - So yo had a good time then???

Her - I had no idea it would vibrate so much... I thought you were gonna have to use a squeegee me to get me off the seat....
