1. i always wear a helmet.....always (part of the agreement with the wife for purchasing the buell)
2. my usual riding attire consists of shorts, tshirt, tennis shoes (summer) or jeans and non-armored jacket (winter)
3. i have done 1 wheelie (totally on accident) and 1 burn-out (bad idea).....and will never do either again
4. i love taking backroads and riding fast, but in control, and never ride aggressively if other cars are around or through blind curves
5. i never street race and never go more than 10 over the limit in town

.......am i a squid? (i think i already know the answer to this)

honestly, i have been looking for a motorcycle jacket for over a year, but none of them fit. if i buy one where the sleeves are the right length, it squeezes my belly like a vice. if i buy one that fits my belly, the shoulders are too wide and usually the arms are too long.
ironically, the only jackets that fit me are harley brand [smirk] and I REFUSE TO WEAR THAT SHIT!

just know if you go down and slide around without hitting anything, your skin will be toast.

At a minimum add pants and boots. I often wear stuff I picked up at the army surplus store. Canvas camo pants were like $10 and tie tight at the ankle so they do not flap plus the large pockets are great. Leather speed lace high ankle boots were only $5 slightly used. I would strongly suggest that as a minimum.

Any trip further the store (half mile from my house) and I wear a full jacket and gloves. I prefer my skin where it is. :)

yeah......i know :(
i'd stop wearing shorts and tennis shoes at least.....
i'm pretty sure if i wore jeans when its 105 id be soaked by the time i got to school/work

The military gear breaths pretty well and I take a change of cloths with me in a pack. Lucky for me we have lockers where I work.

You arent a squid yet. If you are going back road riding at least put some pants on. I try to wear my gear all the time but when its 100f outside 98% humidity and a 110-115F heat index, thats when the black leather jacket stays home and i just ride easier. If you were riding stupid while wearing what you wear then you would be a squid. But naw, your just squidin it up right now ;)

BTW anyone guess what state i live in?

Loki-Indiana? Yeah Im a nut about wearing my gear but when its this hot, I just ride in grandpa mode without the jacket...And for what Triguy said, army pants rock when riding, just enough space underneath if you want to wear any extra armor, and pretty durable.

get some gear!!
i was wearing a carhart, sweatshirt and a t-shirt as well as jeans and shoes (yes i know its not riding gear but its better than a t-shirt and shorts)
i wrecked my xb9r 2 months ago on the 22nd and my shoulder still doesn't have skin (all tho it is about half the size of the original wound now) but i got road rash on my right shoulder, right wrist and knuckles left wrist, both elbows, right knee, shoes got blown off and has scrapes on them and my left ass cheek as well as a sprained wrist/thumb somewhere around there. http://s70.photobucket.com/home/Nirvana12211990#!cpZZ2QQtppZZ24
this was at about 70mph as well so, gear is definitely a necessity now after that experience.
sorry for the rant but i figured that i would give you my ¢2

I went down a few years ago with no gear on at about 65mph. Doc said I lost about 40% of the skin on my body. I wear a summer riding jacket now with no exception.
About being a squid though, I say different strokes for different folks. Do what you like and don't worry about what others think.

Just to add a the perspective of going down with gear. I highsided at 70-80 on the track and flipped head over heels and slid down the track only god knows how far!
I was wearing full gear and walked away with nothing but a few bruises and a slightly sprained wrist.

But I agree with DMP. Its your body, do what you want with it.

loki i also live in MO and know how you feel been 100+ all this week. i ride in a t shirt but i still wear my gloves boots and pants

I have to admit then when its over 90 i don't wear a jacket. Still rock the pants, boots, and my Icon Armor Vest. I just can't put on that leather jacket when its that hot :(

110 degrees or 30...you won't find me without a jacket, helmet, and gloves. Sometimes I skimp on the boots and pants.

the tear resistance of jeans is better than shorts or skins, but still doesn't beat full, proper riding gear (leather or touring). i wear my RST jacket with gloves, high riding boots and jeans - always! started wearing my RST riding pants to work and getting dressed at the offices.

i really have no sympathy with riders who get injured due to their own negligence/stupidity.
