I have not ridden for very long at all (comparatively), and yet this is how I feel to the core. All the heat and the gear is NOTHING compared to how uncomfortable you will be when you have 50% of the skin peeled off your body. And yes, I said when.

this maybe a odd comment to a horrific picture, but why is there a sneaker in the pile of meat when there are riding boots also? ive only ridden in shorts once. i dont know how people ride buells in shorts. i thought my leg was going to catch fire. and i only rode 2 miles down the road.

I grew up crashing dirt bikes and I just kinda naturally figured out that heavier bike + more fast = lots more ouch. I don't even own shorts anymore. If its summer, I'm on my bike, so I need jeans. If its winter, I probably want jeans anyway. I wear an armored coat, gloves, and a helmet. I also wear a studded belt cus I figure that if you slide, hips are probably a major contact point, so why not have some human frame sliders? Plus, its super stylish.

The bad part about all this is the article states " motorcycle accident" and I hate to admit this but I am from Tulsa,OK and this disgust me. How can a reputable paper state an "accident"? When you are going 130 mph on a public hwy it isn't an accident if you crash and die. It's just stupid. You get what you ask for. God rest his soul, but not an accident in my book. If you ride this crazy don't worry about gear, you're gonna die anyway. w/0 the gear maybe your suffering won't last as long.

Yeah, I agree with Lesley ^^

I've had friends/acquaintances die in motorcycle accidents. I've had friends/acquaintances walk away from motorcycle accidents. Almost exclusively, those that have died were traveling at speeds in excess of 120 mph. Gear doesn't make a difference at those speeds, it seems. Stupidity will kill no matter what you wear.

This thread has definitely made me re-think my driving habits. I never drive way over the speed limit or anything stupid. But i am definitely going to be more cautious and wear more protection when I ride. Accidents happen to easily and are often times out of your control. Gear up and ride smart!
