Tire 240mm ....

I am curious about how Hellbound got the 240 to fit and is still using a belt drive. When the wheel was widened, was it the left side widened and the right left alone?

I have a 200 on my bike now. Its close on the drive side but there's plenty of room on the oil side.

got one thing to add though.... I HATE THE FUKN CHAIN! it was a big reserve on doing this, and the only part i dont like. the fuddling fiddling and fukn mess.
I feel the exact same! Impossible to keep clean. And lubing sucks. Not to mention its so loud.

But there is no way in hell someone was able to keep the belt without notching the swing arm, cause i had to jusst for the chain. Its possible just not as easy.

PS: it doesnt matter how much space is on the oil side, cause if the wheel is widened properly than the same amount of material is added to both sides of the wheel. (The chain side is the limiting side...) My chain his my tire so no space there.

^ You Tube video speaks volumes. Wish the camera bike could better keep up with the 240 bike in the big curves.

The chain is the one big drawback. I kinda liked it at first, easy burn outs and more comfy wheelies. The rubber belts take the place of the standard cush drive found on most chain driven bikes. Driving aggressively thru low speed 90° slick asphalt turns was hairy the first few times but IV learned to feel the bike sliding out from under me now I can play with it. Still can b annoying pulling into my neighborhood off a 50mph road with a BMW up my ass. 240/55/17 continental, rimspec 17x8 with grandstand spacers 46t rear, 21t front

the guy downunder sliced a long slot in his swing arm to allow the belt to slide through. i saw a pic once... no way in hell would i do this! all others i have seen that run the belt have either widened their swing arm and stepped out the right side peg which looks odd as well, or have offset their rear wheel to the off side which. to me the later seems stupid as it would throw handling out a lot.

i looked at a lot of options, and the chain is the only real simple and neat way to go. the right side peg support is just splayed out so it still looks standard, and hte notching of about 5 mm in the swing arm is easy to conceal with an uper belt guard. i will get some better pics today when i go clean the shed.

remember too that this original set up was designed around 03/04 swing arms as well. the swing arm on the early models is thinner so has more room. the later swing arms are more substantial, hence the closeness and clearance issues of the chain.

i am still trying to work out how to get my front sprocket out a bit further to help clear my tyre. the rubbing on the tyre annoys me, and its like Grandstands didnt get a front sprokect made correctly to suit the set up. to me the front sprocket needed a deeper return to allow the nut to go on correctly and to space the sprocket and chain out enough. to have to put spacers behind limits the amount the front sprocket nut can bite the thread. and it still allows the chain to touch the tyre.
that is my only dissappintment with their service and goods supplied. their lack of detail and manerism is poor in this regard, and when you raise the points, nothing seems to come of it other than blunt email replies as if you are attacking them rather that for what it is. valid points and questions, for later RnD and developemnt or upgrade.

chain clearance to everything...

notched 5mm between teh tabs (and including the tabs - they are half their original thickness now).

since this i have now fitted the upper belt guard back on. hides the notch and helps with that **** splatter from the lube.

twoguns; bike looks fantastic. I see pics of it up on FAT300Cutomcycles website. Is that who you got some of your parts through? I've been looking around for the best way to do the 240 tire and they have been one of the only places to get back to me and have been extremely helpful so I'm getting a wheel widened by them. Gonna bet the EBR Idler and spacer etc... but what do you guys suggest for an offset front sprocket? I noticed you weren't very satisfied w/ GSD's front sprocket and FAT300's is like $165 just for the front sprocket! Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks!

i have had to try and create a spacer to go behind the front sprocket, but it still wasnt enough and i can go no further as i loose bite on securing the nut.

yeah they were helpful. the needed to also learn a little more as i think they also get bits from grandstand designs. i am not certain but have my thoughts. i got back fat300 about my front sprocket concerns and never heard any more back from them. if you do find something with a deeper dish on the front sprocket to space it further, then let me know.

Ok, so just received the wheel, wheel spacer, extended bolts and front pulley from Fat300. ( I asked about the front sprokcet being offset enough, and they told me the front sprocket is the correct offset and has been tested and works fine, so we'll see!) Got the EBR idler and sprocket for chain conversion. Just need the chain, rear sprocket and tire. I'll update when I get there!

I guess my next question is how do I space out the rear set and the EBR idler?

it will be interesting to see your set up then. i asked that exact same questions. and got the same answers only to find that none was true. i was told all cleared, then found that i needed to file a bit from the swing arm to make the bolts fit. then i saw this updated on the web. then i questioned them re the chain rub on the tyre. i have a 18mm chain. thinnest you can get. i aksed for a larger offset front sprocket. they dont have one. i put a few spacers behind. actually the most i could fit. still hits the tyre. so let me know how you go. it would be great to clear the tyre.

to space off the riders peg support... jsut remove it and put a few washers in the bottom to angle it out. i have three in and its enough to clear. then tighten all again.

you will find you need to grind the swing arm if its 05 or later. i took out about 5mm between the upper belt guard tabs to clear the chain and a little around the rear axle to clear the bolts. putting the original upper belt guard back on helps with mess. you will see when you do a set up.

and to answers onelogue... no i have no chain slap markings at all. it all clears the bike, just not the damn 240 tyre.

if i could offsett the front another 5mm i would be sweet. need a deeper front sproket.

well today was interesting. while doing some panel swaps on oompah, i thought i would do a quick chain check. lucky!. one of hte links had broken on the inside and the outside was about to go as well. i reckon the next ride it would have gone for sure. unlike a belt there would be some damage. replaced it with teh spare that comes with the chain, but considering this chain is less about a 1000klms old, that aint good.

i am running a race rated motocross chain. it is the strongest that i could get that was the narrowest. at 18mm across it is narrow.

what are you guys running chain and width wise?

do you think the link broke from rubbing the tire?

I asked FAT300 what chain the front sprocket was sized for, a 520 or a 530 and he said that a D.I.D. 520 VM2 is the recommended chain, so that's what I asked my shop to order for me. Can't comment on the fit yet, but I will next week when I get this mounted. I wonder what onelogue is running, I thought he mentioned he has about 1mm of clearance between the chain and tire on his set up when he first did it, but I might be wrong.
