Wheelie Flops

Wait power wheelies or we talking floating it up under hard acceleration? You wont bring it to full balance point on sheer power even with power, and with out bringing your weight and body leverage up and back even second will struggle, regardless of your gearing.

Oh yeah back to relevance to the thread topic, i lost a second gear wheelie on the freeway looped backwards, had all my gear but still a bad sprained knee ankle and the bruising was dark painful and wide spread. Also repairs were very very costly

OMG that is horrible! Sorry to hear. :( On the positive side he lived! That stuff scares me. Been to too many fatal crashes.

I am referring to floating the front tire up about 6 inches off the pavement. I don't do full on big wheelies. Too dangerous for me. I am too afraid I will go over the balance point and crash or get scared, cut throttle, and slam back down. I prefer to get it up about 6 inches to a foot and pin it up to the rpm limiter. Try and get that low 0-60 time.

I have some nice new titanium pieces to go with my current collection from a get-off on a wheelie last July ... I got pics too but they're all kinda ****/NSFL ...

I was on my r6 streetfighter and pulled up a 2nd gear clutch wheelie with a few friends ... I brought it up to my usual balance point and started feathering the rear brake to smooth out the wheelie, then my foot slipped off the rear brake pedal and I couldn't bring my foot back up to it before I started tipping backwards and lost it ... I was only doing around 40 though so the damage was very low to the bike ... unfortunately it fell on top of me, so I can't really say the same for myself ... about $180k later in medical bills, here I am ... back on two wheels again on the exact same bike ... :) ha!

Damn negative that's crazy. I love to power wheelie on my 1125cr if I had a steering dampener I'd feel safer doing it at high speeds but I don't have one yet and I grew up racing dirt bikes still do till this day so I guess doing a full wheelie comes kinda of easy for me. But ya if you want to get into wheelies a dirt bike is your best place to start!! I can do them going all the way down our fields here in Iowa and in one spot there's about a 200 yard stretch where I can ride about 10 ft off the road and ill try to match the cars traveling at 55 mph on the road on my dirt bike on one wheel then slowly speed up it's really fun and I bet they have fun in the car too. Iv heard little kids go crazy if I do it with a van hahahahaha. But anyways then just apply your knowledge to your buell and remember always know when to bail if it gets to high and you know it's coming back you'll save your self and your wallet. Holding on just puts more force on the bike into the ground. And if you ever want to learn how to crash...ride a dirt bike earth is much more forgiving then pavement and so is your bike.

Where at in Iowa are you john.. I'm down by council bluffs.. and power wheelies on my cr are my favorite thing about the bike.. just a little crack of the throttle in 4th gear at 80mph And she is up.. I watch my buddies all day on 600s and 1000s clutching them up at 60.. its all about the torque..

I personally haven't tried to wheelie the XB, but on my first two CBR's, I would wheelie all the time. Clutch it up in 2nd and hold it on the balance point anywhere between 40mph all the way up to 70mph. A buddy of mine had an XB12R, and would clutch up in 1st and just step the rear wheel forward a few feet at a time. He could also get up to speed, and shift into 2nd-5th with ease. Not sure if he's on here or not, but he usually goes by the username "Duff".

I second that. Last weekend of October I threw her down the road at about 60 mph carrying the front over a big crest in the road. I got all the way to 11 o'clock trying to bring it back..lol, slipped off the brake, wasn't covering the clutch etc etc.

When the tail light scraped (tail chop done) I just let go, thankfully by that point I was only a foot off the ground. Bike slide a good 200 ft, and I went about half that. Luckily, I walked away with just a small scrap on the back of my leg, didn't even hit my helmet! And the bike only suffered the typical damage you'd see in a medium speed lowside.

I definitely feel letting go when I did saved me and the bike from far worse. Anyway Im going to keep the wheelies to a minimum, and only on dead flat roads this year, too expensive.

Renegade.. This Duff?

That's Winning!

Here a good Buell wheelie fail just for hell of it (skip to the 30sec mark)

here a good fail i did. i was on a mermoial ride for a buddy that was killed in iraq. well it started to rain and my gloves were soaked.i was at a stop singn getting ready to go when my hand slipped off the clutch.she went staight the **** up. i slipped off the back landing on my knees and bracing for impact. well she went ghost rider instead. doing a wheelie for about 30 feet, came back down and went another 20 before she went down on her side. i had to swallow my pride on that one. called my folks to come get me and bring the trailer. then explain to my ex wife why i called them first.did end up with road rashed knees, even though i didnt rip my jeans, and two sprained wrists. total damage for my fire bolt was $2300. i still ride her today. just on 2 wheels.

Wow, that video man.. What a failure. That squid does not even deserve to be riding a ninja 250. I see this all the time, kids want to "stunt" their bike before they even know how to ride. Pisses me off to see a buell thrashed like that.

On the main subject, i love my wheelies. I only do 1st gear power wheelies, but i do them all the time. Just yank up and roll on the throttle around 3800 rpms and you can ride em out till redline. I love my bike way too much to be clutching the **** out of it, so no 2nd+ gear wheelies yet.

i had to swallow my pride on that one

Haha, know the feeling on that one, i was with seven other guys blasting some backroads when I went over, luckily I was second from the back and all the gopro's were infront of me... lol, don't wanna star in a youtube fail comp if you know what I mean! We were hauling and the first five guys didnt even know I was down until they hit the next stop a few mins down the road. Not the best day.

Good you came out of it with only minor injuries Chief, even better that you fixed your bike!

Yessir, that's him!
Nice! I must have watched that vid 100 times while I was looking for a Buell. Got skills for sure!

This one has always been one of my fav's too. I''m more of a rock guy so the soundtrack suits me better :D

Hahaha!!... Thanks john422...I'll just say I've got quite a bit of money invested in the titanium industry, or my insurance does anyway.... And a few permanent fake teeth.... And a nice collection of several skin grafts... (that wheelie get off wasn't my first taste of asphalt)... It rings true what they say, "You play, You pay"....

1badtiton90. I'm in crescent just outside of council bluffs. So I know you go on rides so you've been through crescent. Im between CB and crescent where that huge dirt bike track use to be now it's a huge house. That's my house! If the shop doors are open stop by everyone always does. Ill show you my CR.

Sorry for stealing your thread!

Lol yes I love wheelies but not clutching it though I didn't learn that way with my dirt bike and I think it's kinda like cheating like a fake wheelie haha if you can't power wheel your bike you don't own the right bike lol as in not American. Hahahah 😃

all the gopro's were infront of me... lol, don't wanna star in a youtube fail comp
just glad go pros wherent around when i did to.

even better that you fixed your bike!
belive it or not, the cheapest place for parts was the HD dealership. had her up and going 2 weeks after i put her down. broke the primary cover, shift linkage, the bolt for the linkage to the primary, left handle bar, left mirror, fairing stay, tail light, licence plate, put a hole in the fairing, turn signal switch, cheese gratered the tail, and road rashed the the left side of the swing arm and rear turn signals. glad i can do body work. you cant even tell it went down
