After re-reading all of the replies, I just want to say thanks again! I really appreciate all the advice.
I feel more comfortable already. :)

I'm sure I'll do stuff to it eventually, but what can I expect for top speed out of the stock bike? If I were to dare try I wouldn't want to look down at the speedo?
I don't even like looking at the speedo on my sled @ 100 mph....it takes too long to look.

EDIT: I guess I'll have my Garmin in my pocket, but it always shuts off when I'm snowmobiling for some reason.........

140 is about all they do they run outta gear you would need to dump alot of cheese to do much better. That being said ive ridden faster bikes gsxr 750,1000's none of them will put a smile on your face like a buell! Its just a very raw fun powerband that never grows old. I never felt comfortable on jap bikes there speed fluctuated to easy ride was akward . Buells are very well balanced and provided power when you need it and very stable feel in the turns. You will love it! Shoot me a pm when you get it and we will go for a ride.

Cool thanks for the info. I'll pm you about that ride in ~8 weeks.

I'm not all that interested in going 150 mph. Just want to cruise around on a bad-ass bike that you don't see every day.

I'm a Harley type of guy for sure, but you see them everywhere.

Plus to get a Harley I would want to ride would be at least twice the price of the Buell I'm buying.

And the more I think about it.....I don't really want a cruiser type of bike anyways.

I want to ride in full gear always, not cruise around town looking cool.

EDIT:I mean it's fine if I look cool and all but, not the point.:D

Had a sportster before my buell , i liked it but after riding my brothers x1 i knew i wanted a buell.then after getting used to mine i will never ride a hd again! Completly changed my thought on what a bike should be. I cant tell you how many times i grabbed a hand full of thoughs wooden brakes swallowed my ******* hoping it would stop[sad]. Now i can stop better turn better and have way more power all still looking great turning more heads. Hell i get more complements and conversations because of the buell . You will be glad you picked up a buell instead.

Yeah, that's it in a nut shell, ATGATT and ride your own ride. Top speed unless you changed the gearing and the ECM is mid 130's. Speedo is highly inaccurate at those speeds so don't go by that. Besides, the twisties at sub 100mph speeds are much more fun.

jcrosby, if you're in Jersey now you should check out njbuellowners.com. They do three or four organized rides a year, this is where the ADK rally began, plus dozens of get together's where people post up if they're going out on a particular day. Also should have a Catskill Ramble, maybe in June, that the NY guys might like.

Glad I never jumped on the HD bandwagon......although I used to think I wanted one someday.
Not so much now.

EDIT: ATGATT definitely.

Don't get me wrong I love my bull but I would also like tonhave a street glide for a couple of trips and when I feel like being lazy.

Take the truck or just stay home on the couch when lazy :)........I love driving my truck even though it has a 5-speed manual, and gets ****** gas mileage.

I changed my mind about ATGATT after riding around in the sun Tuesday and Wednesday.

I did buy a nice new full face helmet Monday though.

Anyways 423 miles in and all is well.

Hot asphalt hurts even worse as its taking your skin off... ;). If its hot, get the right gear. Regarding that video above, did you take a look at his left knee? Looked like hamburger to me. Might have been maybe a bruise if he had some riding pants on.

Enjoy your Buell, and welcome to the addiction!

I've found out the hard way to always stay to the left of the lane when passing side streets and to always be ready to squeeze those handles at far less then a moments notice. I'm on the lookout for a lightning myself and am in ny so will be looking into some meet and rides in the near future. Congrats on the sweet ride.

READ THE MANUAL and adjust your suspension settings for your weight. WHen I first got my XB, the previous owner was significantly lighter than me (by about 80lbs,dinky guy), and my bike was very squirrely until I got the suspension dialed in for my weight. Those suspension settings really do effct the way your bike handles pretty dramatically because of the super short wheelbase. Make sure its set for you and enjoy.

Your best Buell riding advice please.............

No lolli-gagging while bike is in gear:p

serioulsy, the best advice I ever got about riding on 2 wheels:

ride defensively and expect EVERYONE and EVERYTHING to cross your path while riding.

Safe Journeys.

twist of the wrist 2 for sure.

look into a motorcycle safety course. you can find them through a lot of universities for ~$35 usually(and many times you can get an insurance discount). Regardless of riding level you will take something useful away from the class. The experienced course you use your own bike and is better for someone that knows how to ride. Most of us dont need to learn what the friction zone is.
