Just stopped for breakfast and gas in Edgemont, South Dakota. I can see the Black Hills in the distance. I was so excited to see the, "Welcome to South Dakota" sign that I fist pumped into the air. Since planning this trip this has been one of my most anticipated places to see. The weather is beautiful. More later. Taking my time thru SD, I'll end up somewhere in ND for the night.
 
Awesome, ride on jl551c. Living the dream is awesome! Wish I had ridden across the US, I am 52 so there still may be a chance? How is it going it alone, at least physically, as there are a lot of people with you in Spirit that is for sure!
 
Looks like a Blast! You're going to be getting into some country with serious wind! Especially this weekend. No trees straight roads and wind. lol What route are you taking across ND?
 
Stutsman HD in Jamestown ND used to sell Buell and might be of some help...couldn't hurt to call and ask a few questions

I'm 54 so there's definitely hope. I like going alone. It'd take someone special to travel with another person. I love the feeling of independence. Physically I'm pretty tired at days end. The concentration alone can drain energy. I haven't once yet felt like pulling over to rest anything besides my butt. It's great having Buellxb there. Online guardian angels. I'm going Premium when I get to New York.

I wouldn't worry about the light unless the pump starts to sound funny when it primes or does not stop priming all together.
My pump had frayed internal wires at the pump and would not stop priming. I drove it like that for about 5k before I fixed it. But I probably got lucky with that one. And these minor electrical gremlins can be very unpredictable.

So on second thought it's probably best that at your earliest convenience you take half a day to investigate the pump. You probably have some frayed wires that just need a little mending.
Highly recommend going overboard with the fuel grade shrink wrap. After I did mine I also took the time to round all the sharp edges on the pump housing with a file.

Day 5 is history. Lusk, Wyoming to Belfield ND. 378 miles. The Black hills were great. Pretty country and nice roads. Good weather. I did have a few bumps in the road. I don't mind bumps too much though. The adventure begins when things don't go as planned! After the Black Hills I hit rain in Deadwood. No big deal but road construction had the pavement tore up so it was dirt, or should I say mud road. But what the hell! I'm on a Uly so bring it on! A few miles of that turned back to pavement and more rain. Eventually the rain stopped, the sun came out and the wind began. AND I MEAN WIND!! I think I tooled down the road at a 75 degree angle. I could start a new thread called "Roasted Left Thigh" because the wind blew right to left and blew the engine heat on my left leg. I looked like Valentino Rossi making a turn with my leg out! I had to grip the bars tightly the whole way. My triceps and fingers are sore. I'm glad I worked out for 3 months prior to the trip. It was a ball really. I feel great. I'll sort out the low fuel light issue somehow. It's intermittent and will be fixed when I'm in NY.

Funny you mention noise. Once in a while when I turn the key I hear an "ugh". Hard to explain the sound exactly. I wear earplugs 99% of the time, but I think this is a new sound. I had an 03 XB9R a few years back and it alway made crazy sounds.
 
One more thing... I stopped a couple of times and didn't hear the fan running. It was slightly cool with hard winds so I wasn't sure if it should come on or not. So when I got to the hotel I pulled out my handy-dandy Houser dongle and droid and did a fan test. Whrrrrr. Fan came on. No problem with the fan.
 
Just made a 100 mile speed run on 94 East from Bismark to Jamestown ND. Incredible wind. Takes 100% concentration. Passing semis is scary. Get caught in the vortex and it's like riding a 400 lb sow and trying to steer it by the ears. 45 degree winds at least 30 to 40 mph in some areas. Lots of bird flying low. I had a big fat Canada goose fly and stop right in front of me on the highway. Just missed it. My schpincter bit out a huge chunk of Uly seat foam on that one. Still, having fun. Most challenging day yet by far. Got 36 more mile and I head north. I'm counting on a tail wind to make things smoother. Just gassed up. To give you an idea of how strong these winds are I got 28.6 mpg on that 100 mile run!
