Hawk Performance Mufflers!!!

Okay. Can folks post up as to what volume level they went with? I'm guessing that the early buyers (last fall and winter) didn't have an option. Now there is "loud, medium, and quiet." I'm curious as to what folks got so I can compare back to the early opinions. Also, if you'd chime in as to whether you would change volume levels if you could. Thanks much!!! [up]

I went with the quiet pipe. Randy told me its just a bit louder than the race pipe so i went with that. I've heard a jardine and race pipe and i liked the volume of the race so i was happy with my choice. When i got the pipe and installed it man did it pound! I'm not sure of Randy's use of the word quiet is fitting because its still pretty loud. I wonder what his loud pipe sounds like...

After getting used to it i really like it because it does have a deeper tone and it does not reverb inside my helmet when i'm just cruising or riding around through town... I never asked my neighbors yet what they think of it though... I am very happy with my choice and would recommend it to anyone!

Got mine last October and it's the original "loud" one. I don't have alot to compare it to other than an X1 with a Force Exhaust and an XB12 with a D&D. It's not as loud as the Force (hearing this rev had my ears ringing for the rest of the evening) is and is probably comparable with (maybe a bit quieter) the D&D in loudness but has a deeper note to it than the D&D. It actually doesn't seem as loud once you're driving. I've never felt like it droned in my helmet. I'm quite happy with it and would recommend it. I'm sure the more quiet Hawk versions sound good as well but I believe that the performance goes down as the loudness does based on a conversation w/ Randy.

I had planned on getting the quiet version, but after talking to Randy I wasn't sure if I wanted to give up the performance for the volume, considering I haven't ridden/heard one to know what the volumes or power gains would be anyway, so I just told him to do what he thought was best. I'll see how it goes.

You can always swing by to hear mine if he hasn't built yours yet...

I have the loud version and it has a great sound it's awsome but when I want to go on a long ride I would like it to be quieter. So I did some research and found these removable inserts. They are called db dawgz made for tracks that have a sound requirement. I have no experience so if anyone does please chim in.

I was out your way yesterday, went right down G.E. road. If I had a 12 I'd probably consider the quiet more, if I even got an exhaust at all. Since I have the 9 and am really doing this just for the power gain I just told him to do what he thought would be best. Who knows if it's noticeable enough that I could feel the difference between the volume levels or not. As long as I can get by without my neighbors hating me, and squeeze through a park with some walkers/joggers on occasion without everyone glaring at me I'll be alright.

ok dumb dumb newb question, but bare with me i have ridden mostly ducati's and am sortof new to the buell world, but what is the "cheese grater" modification that randy includes in his package deal?

Cutting down the rear fender/license plate bracket, aka cheese grater.

Not Randy's work but the bike in the front would be after getting rid of the cheese grater and the bike in the rear before.

Well after a couple of months of withdrawl I have ordered my second Hawk muffler. Going to buy Bueldude's 09 XB9 Muffler and have Randy do it with his medium noise option. Randy is also going to send me the gear I need to mod it to quiet should I decide to do that. Live and learn I guess......:D

Anyone have a good map that will work with an 04 XB12 with an open airbox and a K&N? I've been running the race map but it doesn't seem quite right...

I'm running the LOUD pipe. It is quieter with the Shark Helmet. But my ears ring a little all the time. Happens to some of us old farts.
So one longer rides I wear ear plugs. Not ready to Randy modify it to medium yet.

Deal is done overall I am not out any money. I sold the last one for what it cost me and this one is going to cost the same with a better condition muffler. All I have to do now is wait. Decided to go once again with the standard muffler. Randy is tossing in the parts to quiet it down if I want to but I have taken a new attitude of..."The neighbors will get used to it." I know what they all drink so I can keep them happy that way....Never again shall I stay from the flock

Is he sending you parts you can weld in later or is he making removable sound baffles? I'd definitely be into something removable someday.

Its parts to be welded in but I will see if I can mod it to be removable. I believe its some sort of washer he made that welds about 1/2 way into the exhaust tips.
