Instead of a catch can I Installed a radiator petcock on the end of the hose below the engine. Had to grind the threads down some so it would fit into the hose. I leave it cracked open just alittle to "bleed" any fluids. It gets wet alittle but no oily mess anywhere. Plus a few friends have looked under my bike and saw a radiator petcock under an air cooled engine. F$%#@ up their head!

Check it out: $15 Ebay "go kart catch can" search + 2 brass plumbing L-shaped fittings from my local Hardware Hank, cheapo Amazon black screw clamps, a few feet of fuel hose & a stainless filter from O'Reilly Auto Parts (or similar), vacuum Ts, and good to go. A pretty clean look:
I did a breather mod, but decided not to use a catch can or even route to atmosphere.
I followed the lead of a New Zealand Bueller and lengthened the rear cylinder hose by 18" or so, and plumbed both breather lines back into the airbox, albeit with 90deg elbows and lengthened ends. This should preserve the breather's intended function while eliminating oil pooling in the airbox.

would this still not spew oil all over the air filter?

I believe that the oil spewing is related to the really short rear cylinder breather hose. Adding 18" to it should help. I'll open up my airbox when I've done a 1000km and have a look a the results. Based on the results in the other thread, it should be effective.
Picked up a Buell XB12S in December. My first bike, so a bit nervous (especially with such a big bike)
Been doing routine maintenance since getting the bike to get it ready to ride in the Spring.

So I'm working on this mod... I tried the air compressor drier, didn't care for the look(see pictures of this by others in this thread). So to make a long story of wasted money short...
I ended up buying a cart catch can off BM carting on eBay. Real nice looking product, $23.50+- . I threw out the 1/8" barbed fittings that come with it and should of went to Menards and bought a (2") and a (6") 1/8" pipe. These are with the barbed fitting at Menards. This gives you a much bigger opening than a 3/8" barbed fitting. Put the (2") on the top and the (6") on the side. Attached the hose from the PCV to the top and clamp. I slid a 3/8" hose over the (6") pipe for looks and attached a small filter on the end. ( I actually rethreaded the top to 3/8" and nearly ruined it so I knew that there was no way I could get the one on the side so I didn't even try. That is when I came up with the simple solution of using a pipe and not a fitting. Only took me 2 day to think of this. I did use the 6" on mine and it worked great)
Now the most difficult part of this mod in my opinion... Mounting the catch can,
I bought what is called a boat strap ( I didn't know what the were actually called so it took me a while to find what I wanted) this is the same strap that Buell used for the oil cooler bracket. I also found them on eBay for $15.00+- for (4) 1 5/8" straps. You only need 2.
I will try and get pictures soon.

Can you just run the 3/8" tubing down to nothing and let it drip as it will, without a catch can or filter?

So I've read this thread before but never really thought about doing this until now because people have had a lot of good things to say about this mod. I'm about to go buy all the parts listed but unsure of how to do this mod because the pics in the thread aren't loading for some reason. Does anyone have a quick write up they did or any instructions on how to do this I would greatly appreciate it.
