So Im just wondering y does a person need to put a filter and a catch can. Y cant you just run the hose straight down to the ground and never have to worry about it again...

Not a good Idea, you wouldnt want that oil sludge getting on your back tire, thats just asking for a wreck!!!

While xtreme makes a valid point, many bikes come from the factory like this(or used to anyway, before everyone started freaking out about an oil drop on the asphalt(which is ironically made from crude oil...).

I run mine with no catch can, no problems, with an open end. Zip tied the open end under the LH footpeg neatly and get a few droplets on the side of the swingarm ever so often.

i like the catch can because it helps me monitor the the seals in the engine

You can, just as the last few posts have said. Although, instead of a catch can, I just used a round allen head bolt that fit snugly into the end of the drain line. Got about 7" of free space to fill up and it cost me $0 to put in. IMHO, it's easier to drain as well when you just pull a bolt out and the crud drains right out.

Agreed. Nothing against the guys who want to make up crazy grenade catch cans and such, so please don't bombard the thread with rebuttals. To each his own!

I run mine down the left peg and i used to keep an eye on things but every once and awhile ill see alittle moister by the whole but i never see anything dripping or have a puddle.as for dripping in front of the rear tire i wouldnt think it would produce enough to make the tire slip. idk

Is there another thread with the initial photos on where to connect the hoses, etc? Maybe it is my settings on my computer, but the first photos don't show in this thread.

I also notice some different positioning of the small breather. I like the one SeaBeeBueller did with it routed further back. Are there any issues with that configuration?

I did a Google search for Buell crankcase breather mod and found some pictures that showed me what I needed to know in order to tap into the breather tubes. You might find what you need as well.

Nice set up Rhino. How muh clearance do you have off the fronttire when it is facing directly towards the can?

They probably deleted the photos off photobucket.

There is plenty of clearance, and it is actually offset (kinda tough to see in that pic). I really like this set-up...

I don't think the nice catch cans look bad at all. It blends right in--especially in black. And if you see what kind of stuff is in there, you'd realize you probably wouldn't want any of that crap on your bike...

cant belive it... i did it too... made the Mod today on my XB12R ...

but a very urban version. no Catch Can, no Filter. bought some new Hose, connected with a T piece and lined Hose to the back..comes out by the left Foot Peg and Oil will drop down to the street..
Had some oil on the Front Rocker Cover wich leaks out from the Breather, but not much...
I will check how much Oil drops out and if its too much... I go for a Can...

Nothing wrong with that at all, technically better for the engine actually(no restriction from the filter, so less crankcase pressure). I plan to remove my filter and do the same eventually...

here in Costa Rica every Truck or Bus is loosing a Quart of Oil per 100miles..
i am still on the "green" side with maybe one drop in a week.....
