Tired of this squid thing

Unfortunately, law is much more complicated than what is explicitly stated. If you ever doubted that, take a look at the long-standing dispute over the nature of the "Dormant" Commerce Clause.

Edit: Thanks browland! I'm far from a poly sci major...just have always taken relevant classes when I've had the free credits. It's good to know that I have the support of someone who is far more educated on the topic than I!

But how can he be correct when it doesn't state anywhere it the constitution a power granted to any branch of interpretation. I'm sorry my friends you don't need a degree understand that simple fact

Kid, I don't have a dog in this fight one way or the other as no one can really tell you, me, or anyone else how to ride. That's up to you and you only regardless if your choices are wrong or right, or if any of us agree or disagree with you.

I dont want to speak for anyone else on this forum, but my guess is that based on my own initial reaction to your post, I think this thread picked up quick momentum with heavy opinions and pointed responses as a result of your aggressive introduction. You came out guns blazing with 'F the world' comments/attitude and I think that gets people fired up as no one really likes to be addressed that way, probably including you.

There are guys on this forum who've been riding motorcycles longer than you've been alive and have a ton of experience and knowledge to offer. It's up to you to do what you want with that information, that's your choice. And just a small piece of advice, again do what you want with it, but maybe next time try asking a few questions rather than double birding everyone and then criticizing when you get less than favorable responses in retrun.

Not coming at you Kid, just trying to help out a little! Ride safe bro!

Richard

I knew it would and frankly who are we to judge other people for what they do. If it doesn't directly effect you what one person or other people do then keep it to your self opinions are like ******** everyone has one and they all stink
Do whatever you want, die, crash, get ****** up, lose your skin, I don't really care. But I am going to express my ******* stinking opinion because this is a forum and that's what a forum means (place for discussion and opinion)I think it's stupid not to wear gear. Today I was riding with my best friend, he has a HD Dyno Wide Glide, half helmet, no gloves, and a tee shirt. He thinks he can avoid anything so what he wears is cool. Me, ZX10, full face helmet, gloves, leather jacket. Oh yes, 85 plus degrees in San Diego. Sure I was hot, but I'm not going to risk it for a bit more comfort. Do what you want, but you fall into the "Squid" category by it's definition, plan and simple. Be proud of being a squid if that's what you want to do. Who cares what we think?

You know, it's kind of insulting to cephalopods to call people who don't protect themselves squids...

Anyways, I fail to see where politics has anything to do with this discussion one way or another. Sure there are helmet laws they're at the state level.

You don't want to wear gear, fine, that's on you. But when you rip all the skin off your back sliding down the highway because your "superior skill" didn't save you from that muffler that fell off the car in front of you, we don't care to hear it.

Ahhh ha ha ha :D, so true, my pet cuttle fish would be insulted for sure :p

But their is a difference between someone like me and someone that goes out with all their gear on and rides like he's the only person on the road that person is a squid even with his gear on. My point is just because someone doesn't wear the gear doesn't make them a squid it's how they ride and how much respect they give to the other people on the road. If one day someone the usually gears up for a ride doesn't he wouldn't be a squid. Your free to wear what you want when you ride. But ride like you have some common sence and and be safe no matter what you wear. If you do that then why should a person with out gear be consider a squid. He is being safe and attentive to his surrounding.

Just my 2 cents but you killed your own argument with the above. Common sense says protect yourself even if you think you wont hit the ground, just in case you do. Not sure where you ride (how you ride or your skill level is really irrelevant.. Notice the pros have the most protective gear)... but my surroundings include aggressive drivers in cars/SUV's/Trucks, gravel in the corners, sometimes broken glass, abrasive asphalt, Metal guard rails, concrete dividers, Potholes that can swallow a prius whole, oil slicked toll plazas, and many other things that can start a very bad day for you... It's your choice to wear what you want, but when it comes time to identify you... You fit at least part of the squid profile, so it shouldn't really shock you to hear the term.

You went over your handlebars landed on your ass and walked away without a single injury? I wish i was you! I got pooped off the rear end of a dirt bike on pavement practicing wheelies and landed on my back/side at about 5mph and got a nice patch of road rash on my love-handle and on my knee!

Can i ask personal question? What type of motorcycle experience did you have as a kid? My point: I started riding dirt-bikes when I was in Grade School and my father always forced me to wear gear (understandably so). Now, at 19, I ride with no less than Boots, Jeans, Gloves, Helmet, Protective Vest, and a Leather Jacket. It's no mystery to me that I never question wearing gear because I was trained to think to wear gear.

I'm also going to ask why you don't want to wear gear. I'm not trying to pick on you and I'm not saying its not your right to choose what to wear. I just want to know why you wouldn't want to wear gear. I don't see my lack of understanding a fault on your side but as a fault of my tiny brain. It's like... people who are hell-bent on keeping their incandescent light bulbs. Is there any real reason other than for the sake of having your "freedom"?

WELL **** !!! shouldn't of looked at this while eating breakfast ! Think i'm gonna puke after seeing that picture !!!!!
That's the last time I put hot sauce on my eggs DAMMIT !

I know where you are coming from wall, but a depiction of the point, albeit shocking. I think it is great that we can have this discussion, but I'll say it is MUCH more pleasant now that tempers have soothed a bit.

I'm completely in the same arguement as some on here when they say "...wear what you want, it is your right." I am ok with that. However, along with the choice of not wearing gear, you are also choosing to be labeled with the moniker "squid" (althought it is insulting to cephalopods :) ). I have only recenly started to wear my jacket all of the time, and it is because the last couple weeks have seemed like open season on Buells. I have read many of the testimonies and realized that it is much more than my skill I have to watch out for. While on the bike, I have to be responsible for every other driver's skill, whether they are old, young, inexperienced, half-blind, half-deaf, or just an *******. I determined that it was much better for everyone if I geared up and sweated a little more. If you don't want to wear your gear, that is a choice, but recognize the other consequences of that choice (i.e. being called a squid).

Just realize, even if you happen to convert all of us on the board that you are not a squid, there are two other things you have to consider, and I'm not trying to come off harsh (but I'm sure I will). There are many other riders not on this board who share some opinions with both sides of this arguement. Second, it is not your riding skill that will hurt you, it is your arrogance surrounding that skill that will potentially kill you. Even the people that have ridden 20+ years will tell you...there is always something more for you to learn, or something you didn't anticipate happening. I wish you well, and I pray that nothing happens to you.

Some people on here don't realize this, but it needs to be said. When you bought a Buell (or wanted to), and decided that you wanted to get on here to talk about Erik's achievements and wonderful designs, you became part of a brotherhood. There aren't any dues, and we all may have differences of opinions, but we all watch each others' backs. If one of us goes down, we all feel it, and we just want to watch out for our "Brothers in Buell"
