2-stroke oil experiment.

I got involved with helping guys in Brazil with the problems they have that are specific to Brazil and its fuel. They run a low octane fuel that is like 87 Octane and 20-somthing percent alcohol. It tears up fuel pumps quick over there

The high percentage of ethanol in Brazilian fuel is undoubtedly related to supporting their huge sugarcane industry.

Having said that, it’s not that ethanol is somehow inherently corrosive or abrasive like many folks claim. It’s that ethanol promotes the build-up of moisture in the tank, particularly as the fuel sits & ages over the course of only a few weeks. This moisture is actually what causes fuel-pump damage.

This is where I become sceptical that the 2-stroke oil you’re trying will actually do much to prolong fuel-pump life. An additive like isopropyl alcohol (gasline anti-freeze) that absorbs or dispels moisture is what’s actually required.

There are also other, probably more important, factors which affect pump life including how dirty the fuel may be & how often the owner lets the fuel level run low. 2-stroke oil isn’t going to help much with these causes either.

As something even more to consider, there’s those out there who claim that the alleged damaging effects of ethanol on fuel pumps is just myth fabricated by the petroleum industry trying to protect its share of the fuel market from bio-fuels; who knows…

You guys do know that ethanol is actually, by its chemical makeup, a good cleaner right? Like what was said before, it DOES attract moisture, and we all know what that does to electronics and metals. The two stroke oil is most definitely not killing anything. Experiments are there so we can find some answers- I definitely am watching this thread.

cleaning wasn't the issue , the issue is that at 37% the alcohol is tearing **** up...and the fuel map is wrong for that level. but that isn't important any more.. that video above is a video showing how to separate the alcohol from the gasoline at home.. that will solve the problem for them.

Im loving the 2-cycle oil so far.. nice top end lubrication from what I am seeing. Just waiting on everybody else to tell me it isn't my imagination..

I personally have been using the marvels mystery oil for two years now and it does seem to keep fuel pump noise down.. I also put it in my girls zx9 and have had no issues to date but she is a seasonal rider only I ride all year long.. we are in northern Virginia

Yes, I have posted on this very topic a couple of times, here is the last time I posted:
Fuell Additives
When I first bought my Uly I ran TWC-3 outboard oil and what a huge difference, as I previously posted. I ran this for about 7K Miles and was mainly checking the spark plugs as my gauge & they actually look very clean. I did notice that the Throttle body and butterfly looked like it was forming some deposits and I then switched to MMO for the last 10K miles and it has stayed a lot cleaner as well as performs as well, if not better. A Gal of MMO at Wally World is less than $16, a little more than the standard marine oil at $12. I have been adding 2 to 4oz's of this stuff for the last 17,000 miles and it has been excellent! no side effects and or Negatives what so ever.

After posting this I wonder if an air cooled Buell XB12 runs too hot for standard outboard TWC-3 oil which is for a water cooled engine, thus causing build-up in the TB. The MMO has been a lot cleaner and not sure if it is because it can handle the higher temps. Maybe the Synthetic marine oil can handle higher temps and also makes it a good choice? Any opinions? I would be willing to try it if it is not too expensive? I originally considered the TWC-3 oil because it was ash less and for lower reving 2 cycle motors, but I did not think of the higher temperatures. Also I did run TWC-3, and now run MMO in the gas of all my cars for the last 2 years and it performs just as well there.

I am running only 3/4 of an ounce per tank...I am sure that makes a big difference. The Hot Rod guys are saying you just gotta run enough to make a difference but not enough to foul anything. They recommended 1 to 600 ratio.

The difference is Possibly because I am using MMO, or TWC-3 before hand, not sure. You are using air cooled small engine oil and you are also using this in an XB9 correct? I have an XB12X so I think it may also be different. I am willing to try the synthetic TWC-3 if somebody knows something about it: such as can it handle the high heat of an air cooled engine in 100 F + environment? I think the standard Non-Synthetic TWC-3 cannot handle the heat. Not sure about the 2 stroke oil your are using? I did not consider it because it is for smaller higher reving engines, but it actually might be better because it is for air cooled instead of water cooled engines. On the Texas Tar Mac when it is over 100 F + outside, feels like 130 F + reflecting off the ground sitting in rush hour traffic 40 miles each way. My Uly seems to like to sip on 1 full oz per gallon, the bike tells me so. I have done the ground work for 17K Miles with checking the spark plugs, gas mileage, wheelability: Plugs are as clean or cleaner than when using straight gasoline, mileage is over 10% improved, oil stays cleaner, engine runs better, idles better, quieter, fuel pump is quieter, cooler, starts easier all times of the year. Most importantly it puts the wings on the Pegasus and the top end is crazy. I recommend people not to do this, because it is like crack, once you start you will not stop, at least I cannot.

Just filled up the tank last night and added about 3/4 ounce last night. We will see what happens. For those that have done this, how long does it take before you notice a difference?

Keep it psuedo-scientific, I guess it would be good to know:
What type of oil you added?:
- Synthetic or Non-Synthetic,
- TWC-3, water cooled boat motor or
Air cooled 2 cycle oil for example used in a chainsaw or weed eater.
- List what benefits you notice if any?
- List what drawbacks you notice if any?
For example I noticed some build up with Non-Synthetic TWC-3 oil in the throttle body, after 7,000 miles. Spark plugs looked great though with this oil and MMO. MMO after 10,000 miles TB looks clean no build up. I do not baby my bike at all, it is totally stock except K&N AF, and if it would have blown it would have been undone by now

06XB12SS_LOVER the 1125 is a different animal? Higher reving, but water cooled? Different variables so I am not sure if you should try it? The older thumpers have roots in a different era. I have been using MMO in my wife's 2002 honda accord 2.3L 4cyl auto for the last 3800 miles and she has 220,000 miles on the ODO. Also been using non-Synthetic TWC-3 oil in a 2003 Chevy express Van, which I will switch to MMO, and it has 212,000 miles. I am using 1 oz MMO per gallon in every vehicle including the Buell and I am saving 10% or better on gas mileage as well as other benefits. I have also started using MMO in the crankcase on my wife's honda accord, she does not know it yet, but so far so good. Since using it in the crankcase I notice the car actually leaks less oil, and I am putting 24 oz's (20%) per the label instructions.

I am using Synthetic 2-cycle the brand is Homeliete .. its standard synthetic weed-eater oil..hahah the bike is a XB9SX 2007 race ecm and Jardine carbon. It was real hot in Florida today, like almost 100F.. ran smooth as silk.

the Hot Rod guys are using this same 1 to 600 ratio in liquid cooled LS1 motors.. Corvettes , Cameros ect ect ect/ I don't see why you couldn't do it in a 1125.

I forgot to mention two additional factors. 20w-60HD oil in both holes and Im running an extra air-scoop. But it was phenomenal today... Literally, smooth as ******* silk... its like its drinking liquid velvet. Tbone is right, its like crack for the XB, I cant go back now.. its too good. Keep in mind mine is a XB9 with heavyweight oil and an extra air scoop. I will try it out on my XB12 soon and it runs the same oil but no extra air scoop, it may be different due to the longer stroke of that motor.
