Hawk Performance Mufflers!!!

Wait, so if I get this muffler I have to do a TPS reset?

no

It's probably a good idea any time you do a major performance mod to your bike.

why is that? an exhaust can somehow magically affect the calibration of your throttle position sensor, i dont think so. if you change the ecm or mess around with the tps itself i would recommend it.

Thanks. I need a muffler ASAP. my Jarden RT1 came apart on the highway, and now I'm riding with open exhaust.

On 08 and newer I have been told its important to reset it every time you fill up

You don't have to do it any more often than the older models, it's just easier to do.

i'm picking up an xb9 stock muffler for $75 (deal, right??) that I plan on hawkifying.

I am just wondering if there was a model year that had different diameter headers? 2003-2006 were smaller and 2007-2010 were larger, right? Just want to make sure I'm getting the correct pipe [edit: the correct pipe for a 2009 xb12xt]. thanks for the help!!

All American XB headers have always been the same inlet/outlet size - only difference is the 12 pipe increases in diameter between the inlet/outlet. The inlet/outlet size themselves are the same for the 9 and the 12. Only actual header size difference is between the American and Euro models.

I know this has probably already been asked but here goes. I have an 09 xb9sx with stock ECM, K&N filter, open airbox mod and am sending my stock muffler to hawk. Does anyone know where I can get a race ECM or will the stock ECM just learn the changes that have been made?

It's an '09, so you won't be using ECMSpy as most do. In order of best-to-worst options:

1) Check out the Tuniversity and custom tune it yourself.

2) Go to EBR Racing's website and purchase a Race ECM or programmable one.

3) The '09s came on the richer side from the factory, so some just ride it without a second thought. (But with an intake & exhaust mod, I would opt for one of the above options to get a custom tune and the most out of your mods.)

I ran mine (09 xb12SS) with the stock ECM and K&N filter for a while. Ran well but not perfect. The decel pop drove me crazy. Just installed a EBR ecm on it a month ago. Made a huge improvement. Bike pulls harder through all gears and the decel pop is completely gone. Only thing that annoys me about the ECM is when I start it cold or even after a few minutes stopped the idle is about 1500RPM for a bit.

All,
Randy is unbelievable... one of the nicest guys I've ever had the pleasure of talking to... talk about customer service!! He called me multiple times and we discussed lots of cool ideas for the Buell. He returned the exhaust the next day after receiving it!! And also gave a discount for us good ole military veterans... what a great guy!! I just received it on my doorstep tonight and will be putting in on in the morning. While I was waiting, I put on the K&N as well as the breather mod...

put on the hawk muffler, K&N filter and breather mod. The bike idles fine and runs through the gears and nice acceleration.. the problem is is bogs down and almost sounds like it's choking with I rev the throttle from idle in neutral. I can come off the clutch in first and not a real problem.. but it hesistates on the initial throttle twist... I have an 08 Firebolt XB12R... I did the manual TPS reset as they describe with the open throttle, close throttle 4 times deal... didn't help.

You probably need to tune the ECM, but it is not easy to do on 08 bikes and newer. The Filter and new pipe is WAY too much for the ECM to adjust too and the bike is going to run super lean. Try putting the stock filter back on and see if that makes the bike run better.

I have a K&N on a an otherwise stock bike but this is making me scared to Hawk my exhaust. I dont want to sacrifice ride ability.
